• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Online issue in FSX

 I thought I read somewhere that FSX players which play online would be able to see airplanes from other users online which people had downloaded, without having to download that airplane them self.

My friend has a piper from Carenado and I could only see his airplane as a Cessna.

Can anyone confirm this to be true or not?

Seems very unlikely (though I really don't know) because you would have to pass the model through the connection otherwise how would FS know what to draw?

I agree with Jon, seems very unlikely to me. I don't think the payware guys would be that happy if their models got send to other people as well :).

Hi there.

Yea it is properly so.

When you put it that way, I like FSX just the way it is.
Just thougt I had seen it somewhere. Many people say things which are not true. I gues it was a false message by that person which wrote it.

Thank you for your reply

Don't know about Gamespy, but if you're flying through VATSIM using FS INN ( MCDU.com ), or Squawkbox3 ( Squawkbox.ca )the other user's aircraft will resolve to the nearest either program can find in YOUR own library. There are MPP packages of AI models available (low poly models), that you can set up to show about anything. The coding in the software even identifies company livery to use if available.

FS INN server side can fly on any FS Host capable computer as well. Don't know about Squawkbox.

Having said all that, Your computer won't show the Carenado textures and model unless you have the Carenado version on your machine. Having the server resolve to a particular model means you just increased the poly/texture/draw count by the number of polys/textures/draws in the original model...not good for frame rates.

Very cool.

Technical Point

It IS possible to download only the textures and model of say, My favorite PMDG B747-400 Continental (for FS9)...

Tested and works in FSX. :O

Maybe I need to update my InnerGears.exe with the required files, then you install them as SimObject/Aircraft and then display a PMDG aircraft instead of one of the default Airbus'? (see thread called 'About AIObjects')

Interesting stuff...

We'd need a Generic area to get our friends aircraft data from, but after that? We should be able to display him properly as an AI aircraft. And? We wouldn't need to actually own the product itself. :p

*Note: Like the other AI Aircraft? I dunno if we'd see details like Lights/Flap Set...etc.
And! As jdhaenens pointed out? It would be pretty easy to find the closest resemblance to an aircraft that is in your inventory. But, I think we can do better than just that. ;)

The main thing about this is the aircraft model. That is of course the most valuable thing on a (payware) aircraft and won't be accessible without paying for it.
Of course it is possible that you fly a PMDG 736 with Air China paint scheme and your friend installs an Air China texture pack for the default 736, then he will see you almost like you can see yourself, but he'll never be able to see a PMDG without purchasing one. ;)
