• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

OpenMapTiles for SbuilderX?

Hi Bill:

Are you wanting to download vector data rather than imagery (aka "raster") directly into SBuilderX ? :scratchch

If so, that would be a great feature, but one which we do not yet have via a special type of SBuilderX "TileServer" feature set.

One can, however, import ESRI *.SHP shape vector data files from smaller sub-sets of OpenStreetMap data ...directly into SBuilderX.

CAVEAT: A direct 'Append' of ESRI *.SHP files to SBuilderX is a less feature-rich functional result than is possible via Arno's ScenProc. :alert:

But it might still prove quite useful, depending on the scope of what one wished to achieve in a scenery project, as it would otherwise save having to trace vectors over a raster imagery Background Map using SBuilderX' existing "OpenStreetMap" raster imagery tileServer option:

SBuilderX Menu > Edit >Tile Servers > OpenStreetMap

Hey Gary,

I guess I used the wrong verbage. New to the scenery terrain realm. I meant the graphics. Not the mesh. SAT Imagery.

Satellite imagery, the photos. I do not know how to do streets and things, like what ScenProc uses. Just the stuff like what Google Maps has, photo maps.

I was wondering if there is an addon API that will work in SBX that will link into OpenMapTiles.

Ok, I asked about FSET and I have also googled it and watched an interesting video on it in YouTube.

I think I should stick with SBuilderX as I am still learning much about its potential and do not wish to start going off in other directions.

I am guessing you brought up FSET because it downloads tons of data (images) for the simulator, then you somehow find them with SBuilderX on your hard drive. Seems like a massive, huge endeavor to get the data/images.

Hi Bill:

I agree that SBuilderX is the preferred utility for many scenery building tasks. ;)

FSET has features for imagery processing comparable to- and extended beyond- those in SBuilderX that some developers find useful.

I would personally limit its use to accessing imagery tile servers that are not otherwise available via SBuilderX or other GIS source file download web portals.

I only mentioned it to you here since it appeared that you may have been considering whether other imagery sources might be available for your project area which you had not seen yet. :)

Yes.. So FSET has a wider territory on resources. Interesting. Many thanks for the heads up.

I might watch some more videos on it.

I didnt think my little mountain project would become a huge endeavor. Just wanted some nice VFR landmarks for stock installations of scenery...
