• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

P3D "Front End" program

Looking for any developers/coders who want to bat around ideas for creating a front-end start page (think of how FSX starts), for Prepar3D. One of the most requested pieces of software from those simmers migrating from FSX.
This would be for payware. If interested, email or PM me on your thoughts.

Honestly this is something I have been thinking about for a while.

This could be implemented fairly easily using flight files. The user decides what parameters he wants, the code spits out a .flt file, and then it is passed as a parameter to the Prepar3d executable. Simple as cake.

This could be developed really quickly and simply if you want an average-looking UI and no advanced selection features. Some more advanced features that could take some time would be querying the airport information from the BGL and code that shows the model. I do already have code that displays models from my MDLMagic project. This could also be cross-platform (meaning that it works in FSX too), since the file format and settings are for the most part identical. If it turns out to be much cooler than the default FSX menus, people could use also use it in place of the default.

Shoot me an email at sean.isom<removespam>@mavs.uta.edu if you want to talk about this further.

Yea, the more I tinker with P3D the more I see how simmers used to the MS Flightsim series through the years would miss this.

I've seen several innovative "front end" apps for FS9, some dealing with scenery, some with add-ons like panels, textures, aircraft, sounds, special settings like for the cfg. file, which in turn starts up FS9 just how the user likes it.

True, it could something quick & dirty or it could be a thought out interface where simmers could really have a nice graphical interface and take advantage of set-ups. Then again, a combo of both is possible (ala version 1.0, 2.0, etc). I'm leaning towards the nicer approach. Guess it all depends on what "quick & dirty" means, ha!

I didn't think there are any great mysteries that need to be solved in coding to create this as it appears to be so similar to FS9, but it still could/would take a good amount of time.
