• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

P3D Model Placer; Screenshots?

Hey guys,

I am asking this in this forum as people arent flocking to the P3D forum room yet. It would, I think, go un-noticed.

Has anyone found pics or video of the Model Placer for Prepar3D yet? I might get this, but would like to know more about it. No screenshots are at the P3D forums.

Arno, do you have something that can place objects in FSX that might work also in P3D?

Just curious. It would be nice to visually drag something around and position it in the scenery area but know of nothing that can do this. I think I have been out of scenery now for 5 years. I am sure many things have happened since then.

I use whisplacer which supports this functionality (i.e. moving models around in real time in the sim)....It has a few issues, but generally it is a good free program and has been invaluable in creating scenery for VectorLandClass with the object library.

Some nifty features are placing 'border cover/fencing' along a line which makes placing fence objects easy. Filling a polygon with a selection of objects is also handy.

Instant Scenery 2 (payware) works very well, with few if any bugs/glitches.

Also has some very cool scanning features.

Arrigatto, HCornea-sahn...

EDIT: I see they have a demo and video of it, downloading now. I hope it can install into P3D.

Ratz......

Instant Scenery 2 will not work with P3D yet. It requires the FSX.exe from what I have found with the demo.

ADE does not provide an in sim view of placement but it does work with P3D (by changing the targeting folders of ADEX). We are currently updating ADE so that it can target P3D directly rather than via ADEX.

Thanks Jon for the heads up. I saw your post at P3D yesterday. Great to hear you are adjusting your tools to work with it.

For my sceneries, I use ADE/X or SBuilderX ... They doen't provide an in sim view but they are good tools and with a lot of functions that I like very much.

Ok, I have picked up ADE, installed it, and I am impressed. Very nice work Jon!

I have outfitted my little desolate desert airport into a proper fascility.

Is it difficult to add Libraries into this?

Very easy....

What I do is use Arno's Library Creator, save the library BGL directly into the scenery folder (that way I don't have to copy every time I modify the library when developing and adding, etc)

Then, in ADE, I open my ADE scenery file, select 'Tools' / 'Library Object Manager', then in the lower center, click on 'Add File' then locate my library BGL in my current project Scenery folder. It will say 'Found /number/ Objects, /number/ already in database. Then Click 'OK'. Then select 'Save' in lower right corner...

In your scenery, you can now right click, select Add / Library Object... In the upper left corner, select your library, and then all if your library objects are there for you in the list on the lower left to use...

Once you compile your scenery, your calls to your library will be there, the library BGL will already be in your scenery folder, couldn't be simpler!!!! Once you make the GUID call in ADE, if you mod your model, just update and save your library file, and it should be enough to see it modified in your scenery, unless you need to re-set scale, rotation, etc in ADE when it calls the GUID for placement out of your library file...

Its uber groovyness with extra yummy frosting!!! Jon Rocks!!!

Thanks for the kind words! As mentioned if you change or recompile a library ADE will pick that up unless the footprint has changed. In that case it is necessary to delete the object that have had a footprint change in the Library Object Manager and re-import the library. There is no need to remove all objects. ADE should know which objects it does not have and just re-import the data for them. At the moment it is not smart enough to spot a change in footprint - perhaps it should so I have added that to the updates list :)
