• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

MSFS20 PaintedLine

Hello! Why do the straight lines I draw with a paintedline look like a ladder? And in the editor the lines look straight.
Where did I go wrong?
I used the method from this video:

I've noticed that the staircase effect gets stronger when the line deviates from 0 and 180 degrees and reaches its maximum value when the bar is rotated 90 or 270 degrees. The simulator engine tries to unfold the vertical texture and tile it.
We need an alternative way to draw lines. The apron cannot be used as it does not bend. Need ideas

Thank you for your answer. Please tell us more. I didn't understand your method. Have you modeled in Blender?
yes, I model the lines in blender. Basically what you do is you import your model in the editor as if you were to add a scenery item, but you use the object type "projected mesh" instead. the process is the same if you were importing your created scenery like buildings, etc. Projected mesh basically takes your scenery object and flattens it, with a much better resolution compared to a painted line. I posted a similar issue a while back but got no replies. this video is helpful in getting your custom scenery to show in the sim

Thank you, kind person! You are the only one who answered this question with an obvious problem in the editor. I'm going to train))

I looked for "projected mesh" and found it in the editor. Did I understand correctly that i need to model the layout of the apron on the plane, export it as a regular 3D object to the simulator and check the box "projected mesh" ? Because in the Blender plugin I did not find the "projected mesh" option
I wonder how the lines will follow the texture of the asphalt.

yes, you model the 3d object like a normal 3d object, and you use projected mesh inside the sim only

Of course, I checked the ground binding checkbox, but not the strip remained in the same form
I dont know that using the fold optioj to projected mesh actually gives it the right properties. In your object type selector, ( in the scenery editor, click on view, then make sure objects is selected) select projected mesh, add it and then place it. There are two scenery objects in every mesh, one is the layer, which controls the type of material it will represent, and the priority in layering. The second is your basic dimensions and snap options. If you haven't added it that way, please try.

I will get to my compiter in about 1 hr to post some screenshots

Ok, so here is how I set up to use a projected mesh.

First, I open my project.
Then I open the scenery editor.
From the editor, I click on /View/ Objects

from there (and this may be a very simplistic process, but my projected mesh just works.) I go to the objects section and select the projected mesh.

I search for my scenery file, add it, and place it. Once i place it, I use the properties box to edit the little things. I don't use the fold hierarchy at all, tbh i don't know what it does.

and btw, this is what my mesh looks like.

It's still not perfect, and I am sure that if i properly do the 3d object just as such, it will look better with proper PBR, but I don't know how to do PBR just yet.

Your strip looks great! I tried to repeat everything you did and ended up in the projectmesh category. I open the projectmesh, find my object, select my object with lines, check the box, and the projectmesh appears in my list of objects, aprons and polygons. But the menu won't open. Flashes for half a second and closes. I manage to see my row inside the category, but I cannot open it. Something is in the way. And my line disappears.

Its probably bevause by default it is set to draw BENEATH aprons, so any ground will display over it. In the scenery editor, expand the projected mesh category. Then select the one that says projected mesh layer 0. From there you can tell it to draw on top of everythig else, etc.

Setting draw before helped ! You made me cool 😎 A thousand thanks!
