• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FSX PAPI Issue

Hi all

I believe this is a known problem but so far I've not found a solution.

I've got a simple texture light for use as a PAPI light with LODs. Very close to it, the light will change from white to red etc as it should. About 50m away that stops working but the LOD functions correctly. From what I can tell, this is FSX stopping the separation plane calculation because the viewpoint is too far away. A bigger bounding box fixes this by putting a big plane underground. However this seems to disrupt the LOD settings of the lights where it always chooses the smallest one and doesn't display any other even with matching-size bounding boxes for each LOD. An overly complicated fix would be to measure where each light LOD stops working and create a bounding box per LOD which makes the separation plane work up until the next LOD. Does anyone know of any better way to make this happen? I'd rather stick to textured lights as they can get as big as I need them to be with LODs.

Thanks

What I would do is have the papi as a separate model with LOD, and the textured lights as model without LOD with edited mipmaps for visibility at distance. You could just export these two elements as different models with different GUIDS from what you have already.

I didn't know the separation planes work for textured planes as well as bgl lights.
