• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Parking Map Tool

Hello all --

I've done some work with AFCADs in past versions of FS but I'm a few years out of that particular loop so pls bear with me.

What I am looking for for the time being is a tool that simply identifies the parking spots for a given airport (as they are identified in FS, e.g Parking 2 GA Small, etc). It's clear that I could use FSX Planner for this but since I'm not looking to edit anything (at least not yet) is there a simpler tool out there that doesn't involve de-compiling scenery files to get the basic info I'm looking for?

Thanks!

Scott

Are you looking to view them in an application in the manner that FSX Planner displays them (ie graphical)? Or are you just looking for a list of parking locations for each airport? I'm not aware of an app which would just list parking locations. Either way you would still need to decompile the bgl file if you wanted to view that information.

The closest way I can think of without decompiling would be to use the select airport feature within FSX. Of course that only lists starting locations, and not all parking locations are starting locations.

Hello Russell --

Thanks for your reply. I'm definitely looking for something graphical so I think that answers my question...FSX Planner seems to be the way to go. I've found the bgl2xml.exe program and installed that. Where in the FSX directory structure will I find the .bgl file(s) that contain the airports? Sorry...like I said, it's been awhile. :o

There are hundreds of bgls within FSX. So first I'd use the Find Airport option in FSX Planner to determine which bgl you are interested in. You enter the airport ICAO code and it will tell you a folder and file name. For example folder 0302 and bgl file APX28170.bgl.

Within Microsoft's FSX folder there is a folder called Scenery. Open that and you will see several folders, one of which is 0302 (in this example). Inside that will be the bgl file.

Then decompile that bgl file to an xml file and open the xml file using FSX Planner. There are several airports contained in each bgl file, so there will then be several airports contained in the xml file. When you open it FSX Planner will present a dialog allowing you to select the airport you want to open. Make sure you tick the checkbox of the airport you want to open then click the Open button.

After it has opene I'd also suggest using the Save As command to save the airport in its own xml file. That way in the future you have one xml source file specifically for your airport.
