"Arch,
Most of the downloading public agrees with you.
My experience so far (and I have been extensively testing the theory) is that the downloading public for the most part won't pay even trivial amounts of money for any quality, however, you've raised an interesting point:
What aspects of the mission's you've flown do you see as most in need of "bar-raising?"
I'm also curious: Would you pay for any addon? Airplane, scenery, mesh?"
Kevin:
Regarding "raising the bar", I would suggest something about the caliber of the default Amazon mission would be a good example. A great story, great dialog, and custom scenery objects, and no glitches.
Almost all of the user created missions I have tried have a few glitches...but probably the largest shortcoming is the lack of highly professional dialogs. As to content, I think that a lot of them have had some good imaginative storylines.
So as not to misunderstand my comment about payware...I was ONLY referring to myself. I have created sceneries, panels and missions....a lot for just my own use, but all resulting from the generosity of many individuals who created the tools. Almost all of my flying since FS98 has been with addon planes. They just happen to be my favorites. Some are better than others, but the ones I happened to like just happen to be freeware. I certainly don't have a beef with payware planes, but I have seen numerous examples where people have paid money for addons and were not happy with the lack of support they got from some vendors. When you give someone something for free...you don't have to support it. I also enjoy being able to "pay back" a little to the hobby I have enjoyed for so many years.
As to whether I'd pay for any addon, the answer is "certainly!". I was happy to buy the MAAM DC-3 and B-25. Good examples of something I wanted that was of high quality plus the money went for a great cause. But there are surely many more examples of quality payware out there. Any of Milton Shupe's planes I would happily have paid for had they been payware. As to scenery and mesh, I have always enjoyed making my own. But would not be opposed to buying some if I wanted it.
Hope that answer's the question.
