Payware scenery - What I must to do?

Hello!
I am looking for some information about creating payware scenery. What do I have to do to be able to release the scenery as payware? I would like to make models in 3ds max, but I don't know for what period to buy it. I will make all the textures in photoshop and here is the question of how long should I buy it? What about other programs? (ADE, MCX etc.) Where to buy satellite images? Do I have to start a business right away? Can anyone explain to me how to start from scratch so as to release scenery as a paid product?
Thanks for help

Hi,

The best advice would be to start on a small and simple project to learn the tools involved. Once you have mastered then you can start to think about making a payware product.

I've created many freeware sceneries (UKKK, ESKN, some scenery in Poland). I know each of the programs I mentioned. I ask in commercial terms what I have to do to use these programs.

I would not use 3d max if I was you. For Modeling Blender, Sketchup & Gmax are more then Capable. A good Photoshop alternative is Gimp although I prefer Photoshop myself. But Arno is right, master each aspect before even thinking of going that route. 1 year in and I am still learning and mastering these elements.

As I mentioned. I did a lot of scenery and I know each of the programs I mentioned. 3DS max is the same as GMAX, and I've been learning at GMAX for many years. Attached are some photos of my work ...

1 person doing an airport 40hours a week, at Fly tampa or ORBX standard is at least a year worth of work. So one years worth of Licences?
As to the business aspect, get up to a point where you have enough to show potential clients before starting to market yourself.

Hi,

I must have misunderstood the question then. Where to buy imagery is the same for freeware or payware sceneries, as the same conditions in general apply to redistributing images. If you already use 3DS Max and Photoshop now for your sceneries, then it seems you have bought them already, so why would that be different for a payware scenery?

MCX is allowed for payware sceneries as well, for ADE I think you need to buy a license. But you can check that in the documentation of each tool.

I have photoshop in the license of a regular user. I don't know how it looks for commercial purposes, that's why I'm asking. I have 3DS max student version and did not make any public scenery in it. When it comes to satellite imagery, I've always obtained it from local suppliers in each country. I am asking for some global source. I don't understand your anger at me, is it bad that I want to make paid scenery? It is best that everything is free... You have not seen my latest work, so you can not determine the level of my skills, and at the beginning you cross me out. Nice.
You can delete this topić and my account

Sorry if I sounded angry. I just want to make sure you don't make the same mistakes I made.
Be careful of the Student licence, I know their is some catch somewhere when it comes to commercial projects. (Auto desk are ass-holes, be very careful with them).
We spend a lot of money and time making our projects, and I fully understand wanting to get money for it , hoping to make enough money to brake even. Goodluck and looking forward to buying your scenry. :-)

Hi,

I don't know why you think I'm angry at you? I'll admit that my first reply was based on a wrong impression of your question, but your original question really looks like the typical question of a novice user who in one posts wants to know everything to make a high quality scenery, without any prior knowledge. Sorry that I misinterpreted that.

For the rest I would advice you to read the licenses of the tools you already have and to check if they allow use for commercial products as well.

When it comes to imagery, I think local vendors for the area you are working on are better in general. But each has its own license conditions, so you would have to check how they deal with payware vs. freeware products. There is no general answer for that.

I only use the student license for university projects and for my private additions. I do not publish projects made in student license programs. I don't know a blender, GMAX is old so I don't know what to choose. A regular paid version of photoshop is enough to sell items made in it?

I see. To correct it, I have been making various additions to P3D / FSX / FS9 (scenery, cars, animations etc) for several years. I just wanted to know what to do to be able to start doing fully commercial projects, because, as the previous user mentioned, we spend a lot of time on it, and we have nothing except satisfaction. 3ds max prices are very high. Blender is very different from GMAX? As far as I know, there is a 3DS plugin in the P3D SDK. I couldn't see the blender plugin there.

The difference is that GMAX is free, and 3DS is very expensive to get a license, so unless you have a big payware company sponsoring your license it would make no sense. You would need to sell a lot to just pay for a one year licence.

But of course, I suspect that a lot of smaller developers "find a way" around that license. Not me. I am 99% Sketchup, 1% GMAX.

Regular Photoshop is fine. Photoshop packages differ by what program you get in the package.
Blender is becoming the new standard, I recommend looking at it, even out of curiosity. But I do understand to using the program your familiar with.

Auto desk student licences are not backwards compatible. Anything made in Student version, even a component turns that whole file into a student version. We had this happen many years ago at an Architectural firm i worked at.
Shop around with local Autodesk resellers, they often can get you a good deal.

No Plugin needed. I model in Blender, then Export a Colada file to Substance Painter, Then all the Files Into "Model converter X. Works perfect.

The best way to describe Blender is a Mixture of Mia and Max. Some stuff will be very similar, some stuff is a little different, but you will get the hang of it quickly.
I switched over and Autodesk can get stuffed. lol

You can also export you Max Models to blender, clean then up and work from their. But not sure what the legal issues around it will be.
I thought 3DS Max was made by Dassault?

CATIA was made by Dasault. If i am not mistaken it similar to Autodesk Inventor & Solid Works.

Yes, but I want to do everything legally :)

Hi, your work looks good! I only made freeware but was thinking you might want to look at this video from FSDevConf YouTube channel:
