• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

    Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

    By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Peavine Bar Cabin

I created this based on photos and the advice I received on texturing here. Would like to figure out how to either flatten the area or tip the cabin just enough to level it out. But it still looks ok. I didn't put a smoke emitter in the chimney for two reasons: 1) the cabin is closed up (no one is in there this weekend) and 2) I haven't figured out how to put effects in 3DS Max/P3D. Anyone should feel free to point to resources to show me how. I used the P3D tutorial to place a forest fire in XML, but it didn't include a way to add it to the 3DS Max scenery.

I think it looks fine on the hill; no real need to flatten the area. If you really want to, you can add a flatten using ADE (if part of an airport) or you might also be able to use SBuilderX, but I don't know if those flatten in P3D.

There is supposed to be a 1650x25’ gravel strip there with no ICAO designator, but I hate the way airfields look with the airfield tools available, but maybe that’s because I’m used to the old AFCAD system. Is there a way to put in a decent looking gravel strip there? I didn’t think P3D required flatten for runways. Glacier Creek is a good example of a P3D runway from gravel with no flatten. It’s got a hump in the middle and is riddle with holes. lol

If you place an actual P3D runway it must be flat, but as long as you are not flying AI aircraft into the strip there is no requirement to include one (or it can be a tiny thing).

Hello:

Here's a 'Quick-and-Dirty' overview of a general work-flow for Peavine Cabin Airstrip:

...you can download and use Google Earth Pro Desktop Edition for various purposes when creating FS scenery:

...you can download and use ADE 1.76x:

...and you can also download the ADE manual:

Additionally, download and install the latest version of FSUIPC for your P3D version

In P3D, launch a flight at Glacier Creek Alaska

In P3D > Map dialog, set target Altitude to 0 Meters AMSL, Heading to 0 Degrees, then 'jump' to:

N 61.456465, W 142.473265

In ADE:

Check: Auto Connect checkbox ...to link ADE to FS via FSUIPC

Click: [Lock] button ...to lock ADE to aircraft location in FS

ADE Menu > New Airport (use ex: PVB as a fictional ICAO for Peavine Cabin airstrip)

Slew to either end of Peavine Cabin Airstrip RWY 08 - 26 location

Align aircraft Heading to RWY 08 - 26 axis

Right-click work-space > Add > Other Start ...to add a RWY "Start Location" for each end of RWY 08 - 26

Click: Green Polygon icon to create a terrain mesh-clinging 'RWY ' Polygon textured with ex: Land Class Texture.142

Terrain.Cfg info for this Texture, which is a convenient way to make a terrain-mesh-clinging gravel RWY surface:

// Roads - gravel / 1 lane / undivided median
[Texture.142]
Name=Roads_Gravel_1_Lane_Undivided_Median
Color=FFC00000
guid={66FC74E3-5051-448E-9397-5DEE2DA6311D}
LegacyId=1160
Textures=hiway_1_lane_gravel_su.bmp,hiway_1_lane_gravel_hw.bmp,hiway_1_lane_gravel_su.bmp,hiway_1_lane_gravel_su.bmp,hiway_1_lane_gravel_su.bmp,hiway_1_lane_gravel_lm.bmp
Layout=3_PLUS_4
StripWidthMeters=8
Size=2
FlattenMode=flat
FlattenPriority=21000
LandClassRemapType=none
ExcludeAutogen=Yes

RenderToTexture=Yes
RenderPriority=101100
Water=No

Add other features as desired, and enjoy. :cool:
