• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Placing objects in P3D

Hello guys, so after years I again need to place some obejcts. But its not FS9 but P3D and the tools I used back for FS9 doesnt work anymore with P3D. So how do you place objects in P3D. Any easy solution? I have v 2.5

Thank you :)

That's a very good question, although I prefer Prepar3D, I develop in FSX so I can use some of my old favourite tools -- Whisplacer for object placement -- but lately I've been working on a Prepar3D-only scenery, and although I do have some Prepar3D tools such as ADE, it would be nice to have something with the features of Whisplacer.

Instant Scenery is also very popular and works with P3D as far as I know.

I still have not managed to put any object into P3D :( Have tried ADE, Whisplacer and Sbuilder, but no luck. Anyone would help me with some kind of a step by step tutorial?

Thank you

Just on a whim I tried Whisplacer in Prepar3D, and it works well. I already had it set up for FSX, so just changed the sim path, and re-exported the libraries as simobjects. So far no problems, but I'll have to see if it continues to do everything it should.

EDIT:
However I did leave the FSX SDK link, so it does use the FSX SDK to compile. But I can't see that there would be any problem with the Prepar3D SDK.

Would you mind sending me your setup? Cos I think I did everything correctly but the live preview is not working for me. Have P3D v 2.5 and the whisplacer folder is just on my desktop, running W10.

It would be worthwhile narrowing it down a bit, as there are a few things which can go wrong.

I originally had a lot of trouble with Whisplacer in FSX, and I needed to install and run the Simconnect Config Tool to get it working. So does it appear to connect to Prepar3D ok? That is, does Whisplacer say 'connected' on the status bar?

I've installed a number of different versions of SimConnect for Prepar3D, I think I have 3 versions installed, so you might need a different version.

If it doesn't connect, then it is probably a simconnect problem. If it does connect, then it may be that the simobjects haven't been created. Did you go through the process of adding your libraries to Whisplacer, and exporting them as SimObjects using the FS Preview Library Maintenance?

I think Ive installed all simconnects versions Ive found. But the second thing, I added my library, thats it, no simobject export or whatsoever. And yes, it says connected. But when playcing the object at the bottom of the window it says "Create object failed".

Just to clarify the process:
You add your libraries (and all the default libraries if you want to use them) using: Tools: Library Manager: then select User: right-click: Add BGL Library.

You can use the menus, but I have always used right-click...

Then you close the Library Manager, and go to Live Preview: Maintenance.

Select your library in the User (or other) list, and click the 'Automatic' button under Export Mode. Then click 'Apply changes'.

That should create simObjects for all your library objects, and it is these simObjects which are displayed in the live preview.

Edit: this is all with Prepar3D not running!

It looks like simObjects are not being created for that library, I'm not sure why, I'll look at it again later in the week.
