• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Polygon definitions?

Hi,
Where can I find the definitions about what the airfield 1, airfield 2, airport backgrounds, and the rest of the terrain polygons do in ADE?

I'm using FSX and have searched for a couple of days to find an answer - no joy.

Right now I'm using a hit or miss process (mostly miss:rolleyes:) on my attempt at using the terrain polygons.

I've figured out a few but would like to know about what all of them do to and for the scenery.

Thanks,
Alan

Hi,

I am not sure what you are asking exactly.
Airfield1, 2, etc. are landclass textures.
If you draw a polygon in ADE and tag it with a (for instance) lava background, the terrain inside the polygon will look (more or less) like lava.
ADE shows a thumbnail of the look of the landclass texture. Depending on the region you are in, FSX will place different kinds of autogen vegetation on it (unless you suppress the autogen).
I do agree that the thumbnail image is not very informative, so, what I did was to use a small airport in the middle of nowhere and added big polygons with all the different kinds of landclass. That way at least I knew what the effect of them would be like on bigger surfaces.
Forgive me if I misinterpreted your question.

When you add land class in ADE it shows a thumbnail of what you are adding.

However you ask what to they do:

  • Airport Backgrounds are used to flatten and clear airport areas
  • General Excludes will exclude groups of terrain elements
  • Specific Excludes will exclude specific or single types of terrain element
  • Land class adds different types of land cover
  • Water adds different types of water - ADE does not offer thumb nails for water polys but it is on the list to include them

I don't think that answers your question either....................

Hi,

Other definitions:

Flatten - flattens ground in area
MaskClassMap - covers the normal land class
ExcludeAutogen - removes autogen objects (buildings, trees) from the area.
