• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

FSXA Polygon doesn't read the Alpha channel ?

Hello again,

now this is what I'm trying to do.
As you can see I'm trying to use a simple polygon with Alpha channel in order to create a surrounding fence around the tower, but unfortunately it does not appear transparent.

I have used a texture with alpha channel for transparency.

Is there a specific setting that I have to adjust?

P.S. When I used lofted lines for ground markings, I didn' t need to adjust anything and the Alpha channel worked fine, why not here as well?

Thanks again!

Petros

Did you apply the set default transparent button on your material?

Yeah, material settings "Default transparent" and you need to turn z-write on and set the value to around 64 and select "double sided".

Thing is, even if you use the vertical "normal" option the plane will look dodgy; it wont adopt the normal corresponding with the building (the shading relative to the sun) (double sided planes only adopt the directional normal you actually see in GMAX).

I would build the railing proper, using 4 sided boxes to keep the polys down.

An easy way would be to build one set, texture it nicely, then group it, copy the group and put copies around the tower; saves having to texture ALL of it! ;)

Arno & Shaun,

it works fine now! ;)

Thank you so much guys!!

P.S. Why do lofted lines read the Alpha channel fine, without those adjustments??

For any fsx mdl you would have to set this material setting to use the alpha channel.

If you are lofting ground surfaces, they are FS2002 groundpolygons.

In that gamepack transparency is assumed
