• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

problem with line width

Hello

I'm presently redrawing streams and rivers (after shorelines and islands) on Madagascar. For wide streams, I used slopy water polys; it's a long job for slicing, due to variations of elevation and winding. But the result is rather good, with streams following correctly the valleys and not jumping over hills as we can often see in FS!
For other streams I want to use simple lines, tagged as "Stream Line Perrenial", with progressive width, for instance from 5m to 20m at mouth.
No problem with that, but when compiled, installed and displayed in FS, all stream lines are similar, apparently with the same width. Is this problem due to FS, or could you help me to fix it?
Thanks for answer.

The line width within SBuilderX only applies to it's display properties, in SBuilderX. The lines that you draw reference entries in the Terrain.Cfg file, which controls the display properties in FSX, such as a vector line's width. Absent any additional entries that are added to the Terrain.Cfg file you will see similar results, no matter your settings in SBuilderX.

Hello,

Yes the width of lines has no effect on "vector lines". In addition to the display properties, the width of line also applies to textured lines (flat or fence type, a feature that is not very well documented and, possibly, of little use) and to extrusion bridges.

Kind Regards, Luis

Additionally, lines in SBX can be "Convert to Poly' witch will make thin polys of lines drawn, with the width set by SBX.

So you can draw water lines ( actually polys ), for example.

Thanks for answers; as I feared, width for line display can't be adjusted. So, I must keep on using polys! Thanks for suggestion concerning converting line to poly; I'll test it as asoon as possible.
Use of lines with different widths should have been very convenient, because it doesn't need elevation data.
