• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Problems with not convex parts

Hello

I tried to modelize harbour docks with an only part.

1/ I tested with drawing a template in horizontal plan, following a bakground map; then extruding vertically 3m; it failed: hollow parts (=water) are not cut in the main part.

2/ I tested with a tube: 1 section, 3 m high; 20 points that I drag on my background; same result!

Is FSDS able to use not convex parts, or is it impossible?

I finally succeeded by using and assembling about 12 parts (all convex 4 sides polygons).

Thanks for answer.

I am not 100% sure I understand what you want to do.
If you want to bend a single polygon, then I think the answer is no,
But if you just want to make a curved object that would look like a dock, then yes.
Make a four sided Tube ( Point/Section), radius and Length would be what ever size you like, and the more “Sections” you make it the smoother the bend you can make, But the more polygons you have. Then you bend it. If unsure how to bend a tube there are a few tutorials on this.

Hello
Sorry not to have answered so far. I had to take some time for pics.

Curiously, we can bend objects and create concave parts (I had a former post about creating curbs).
It seems that FSDS have unpredictable results with concave parts when working with tubes or extrusions: impossibility of creating a correct "I" shape rail beam by extruding a "I" template.

Joined 3 examples:
1/ concave part correctly created (1a-1b)
2/ concave part created, but wrong (2a-2b)
3/ concave part ignored (3a-3b)

Thanks for explanations about using convex / not convex parts in FSDS if possible.
