Hey all,
Just a quick sketch, less then an hour. Felt like 30 minutes. A weekend of tutorials on YouTube, then I saw a prototype by Scaled Composites late last night called the Firebird spyplane. I thought I would just sketch it out in Max. No background bitmaps or anything, just started with a Box and quickly went from there.
I made it a mass of extrusions mainly. Primary tools used; Extrude and Swift Loop.
A speed sketch or speed model can help you 'bond' with your memory of where tools are, making you more proficient. Also, working in NURMs requires you to work in Quads, 4 sided's, so that keeps you sharp as well in those areas.
Mind you the model is horrible, the rear engine cowling is totally not finished, its missing the overhead scoop for the engine, etc, etc, etc, etc. But I wanted to make the shape (basically) and that is almost finished.
The rear elevator was curved at the corner using 'Hinge from Edge' tool, extruding Polygons, setting number of sections in the curve, setting it at 90 deg.
