• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

    Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

    By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

MSFS20 Radios only work with autostart.

Hey guys,
obviously I'm missing something very basic.
I working on a vintage aircraft with a very simple electrical setup.
Position lights are on the alternator bus, and since this aircraft was retrofitted with com radio and Transponder it has the radios hooked up straight to a battery.
No other consuments available in this machine.
Problem is, the radios only work when I autostart the engines. They don't when starting cold and dark
Obviously FS flips a switch during autostart that I have no idea what it should be.
Any idea what I'm missing?

My electrical setup:

[ELECTRICAL]
bus.1 = Name:Main_Bus
bus.2 = Name:Battery_Bus
battery.1 = Connections:bus.2#Capacity:24#Voltage:curve.1#Name:MAIN_BATTERY ; Main Battery
alternator.1 = Connections:bus.1#IEng:1#RatedVoltage:6#Load:curve.2
curve.1 = 0:10.5,0.1:11.5,0.5:12,0.9:12.2,1:12.2
curve.2 = 500:0,1200:30,1400:55,2800:60
circuit.1 = Type:CIRCUIT_GENERAL_PANEL#Connections:bus.2#Power:0.5,1,10#Name:General_Panel
circuit.2 = Type:CIRCUIT_LIGHT_NAV#Connections:bus.1#Power:10,15,6#Name:Nav_Light_1 ; nav 1 light 15W
circuit.3 = Type:CIRCUIT_AVIONICS #Connections:bus.2 #Power:20,25,10.0 #Name:Avionics_1 ; avionics 1
circuit.4 = Type:CIRCUIT_AUDIO #Connections:bus.2 #Power:10, 15, 10.0 #Name:Audio ; Audio 15W
circuit.5 = Type:CIRCUIT_XPNDR #Connections:bus.2 #Power:10, 18, 10.0 #Name:Transponder ; Transponder 18W
;circuit.6 = Type:CIRCUIT_NAV:1 #Connections:bus.2 #Power:4, 5, 10.0 #Name:NAV1 ; NAV 1 5W
circuit.6 = Type:CIRCUIT_COM:1 #Connections:bus.2 #Power:4, 5, 10.0 #Name:COM1 ; COM 1 5W
circuit.7 = Type:CIRCUIT_XML:1 #Connections:bus.2 #Power:10, 15, 10.0 #Name:AS92

...and what Simvarwatcher tells me while going through the manual startup procedure.
Note, after autostart both circuits avionics and comm1 are working.

Not sure really.
It's a 100% hack of the stock Asobo AS92/AS21 templates off the Savage Cub.
My Interior.xml has these entries here:

XML:
        <Include ModelBehaviorFile="Asobo\NAVCOM\AS92.xml"/>
        <Include ModelBehaviorFile="Asobo\Transponder\AS21.xml"/>

        <!-- GLASS_COCKPIT ############################ -->
        <Component ID="GLASS_COCKPIT">
            <UseTemplate Name="ASOBO_AS92_Template"/>
            <UseTemplate Name="ASOBO_AS21_Template"/>
            <CameraTitle>Instruments01</CameraTitle>
        </Component>

That's all you can find in the Savage cup so I'd think the subtemplates will be called from the AS92/21 templates.

Thanks, but the radios are not on the alternator bus, only on the battery bus... and that poor little aircraft only has a 6V alternator.
As I said, only the nav lights are on the alternator bus.
And again, the radios do work as expected when I CTRL+E the engines.

Yes well actually the way you have it, everything that drains is on the battery bus and the alternator is on it's own bus essentially pumping out 6 volts and there is nothing even drawing on it, maybe spark plugs. There is no charging on the battery bus and if you used the electrical system debug window it would probably confirm that.

My aircraft has two busses, actually 3 with the spare battery but each main bus has both battery and alternator. When I test my aircraft electrics, ctl e will start it when my programmed manual start sequence will not, therefore it will start it when it is essentially "impossible" to do so otherwise so I don't use it to test anything so sophisticated as a manual start sequence.

It was dead simple acually as suspected in my initial post.
I had to add a battery switch and all is working as intended. now.
Thanks for your suggestion, esspecially for bringing back the debug window to my attention! :)

Edit: The avionics circuit was in need of a switch, too.
