• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Rain + New Scenery Buildings...

Hello Everyone, first time poster, long time registered user!

First of all, Many THANKS to the FSD Team and community, with special props to Arno and Bill Learning, as much of what I work on is specifically related to their areas of expertise! :wizard:

Moving on...

I have searched, without success for 30 mins, and found similar questions, but not this one...

I have a couple hangars that I created in 3DS Max, textured them, added them to my airport and even created spawn points inside them... However, when the skies darken and it begins to rain, the rain comes through the roof of my new scenery building. :(

Is there a solution or "trick/hack" to make the roof of my building NOT allow rain to pass through it? Did I miss something?...

Thanks....

OMG, And I would also like to include Scruffy Duck in the props! ;-)

Don't think there is.

The only thing that springs to mind would be to try a platform at the roof level
(noting that this probably won't work!)

I'll see what I can do... Thanks for the suggestion, I'll report back on the success/failure... :p

For FS9 compiled models the solution was simple: add a floor to the hanger to "stop the inside rain..."

I've not tried that trick with an FSX model though, but it's worth a try! :D

I was thinking more along the lines of designating the roof as an aircraft canopy/fuselage. But I am not too sure how the game logic specifies what is and what is not a solid surface for precipitation to collide with...

I am also not to sure about both suggestions. Adding a floor/platform is done in MAX? Am I missing something? Wouldn't the roof be the same? Or is there an actuall designation that I am overlooking?

making the roof a landable platform could make the rain not pouring down, as to the floor may be a a trick for avoid the rain, closing the object in this way, don't know but it's of interest I don't like make a hangar and see that it's raining indoor, if making a landable surface avoid the rain, this could be more esasy making the platform with modelconvertex, (autoplatform)

Yes, I can confirm it. I tried it some days ago and it was still raining inside. I'll try it with the platform when I have time.

Ok, so I have tried the Platform and this doesn't work, or I am not adding it correctly.

As for the Floor, this was how I orginally had the model, but there was some issues with the textures and the ground that I just decided to use a landclass poly for the cement and deleted my floor. This is not set in stone.

Unfortunately, neither of these work. I am concerened that I may not be attaching the "Platform" correctly to the plane that I create above the hangar. When I check the object properties I see that it is added to the "User Defined" area.

When I check the "File Properties" I see that there is an entry for the Platform under "Custom". But am not sure what the values should be. here is what I have: Name = AttachNum : Value = 1 : Type = Number. Are these correct?

I also added a skin modifier to the roof, to see if the game engine treated it differently; no success.... :(

Also, Does anyone know how the rain stays out of the Cockpit/Fuselage? It is obviously possible to create collision with 3D objects, but the question is how...
