• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

ramp illumination

hi guys... I need to know how to get my ramp lights to illuminate the tarmac with FSDS. I think the trick is in getting the texture right. What do I have to do?

Hi jonmkj
If you have done any work with effects there are a few ground effects that would do this.
A fellow named Horst8519 has a zip in the Object market that you might like.

If you would like to do this with a night texture find the ground texture of your ramp, for the screen shot I have below my test area was Taxi_concrete.dds, I found this texture in the game folder and resaved it in my working folder as a BMP and renamed it, I then made a night texture with ( _lm ) on the end. For the ground light I just darkened the texture and the made a light spot in the center. Once all my reworking of the texture is done I saved it as a DXT1 with MipMaps and put them into the texture folder of your scenery. Working with FSDS I simple made my test light post and a 100x100 polygon placing it just up off the ground, if you place in right on the ground you get some flickering that looks bad. You can see from the screen shot that the lines in the concrete don’t line up just right so I would need to move it around a little but you get the idea.

I hope this helps

Could you explain to me how you made that light?, I have been trying to do that for a while but no success.

Hi Gera
The spot on the ground is just a night texture; the light at the top of the post is the effect
(fx_navwhih.fx) I am pretty sure it’s a default effect. If you need more in depth instruction on adding effects to FSDS objects I will help.
