• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Welcome to Florida!
My sis and my B.i.L. are once again fleeing their home, now because of hurricane Dorian. They fortunately found two last tickets on a plane to New York. They could not go north by car because there is no more gasoline to be had. So much for living in a third world country !
How can it be that the richest country in the world still can not cope?

I live in Florida and I'm going to shelter in place. I have food, drinking water, a generator and gasoline. Two years ago I evacuated and that was two of the worst cross country trips I have ever taken. Nightmare traffic leaving and coming home. My best wishes to all who encounter this storm.

Stay high and dry Ed! Hope everything goes well for you.

I would have stayed home as well because the worst, when you do evacuate, is when you come home and see all the damage that is done without you being there in person to at least try and do something about it!
You do not defend your property only against intruders but also against the elements.
I have a thatch roof , so I am glad I do not live in Florida.
Dorian goes straight for W-Palm Beach but hopefully weakens a bit.
Make sure the shutters are in place and have a drink (or two) and just let it happen.
Hope to hear from you next Tuesday (if the internet works, of course).
At least, Ed, your life is not boring that way:).

PS: Jon is hopefully still in the UK?

I have a very bad feeling about this one, the one called Dorian. Stay safe! Ed.

But Ed, do you have THE most essential, vital, and critically important supply, the one which without, there's no point in staying anyway.

Naturally, I speak of the alcohols you prefer. Beer, whiskey, bourbon, whatever. :rotfl:

Sorry, I had to.
Seriously, Ed, I wish you the best.
Beware, though, of the worst problem this hurricane might bring. I speak of the HUMANS. Looters especially. With all the rapidly abandoned houses and businesses, they will be rife. And often armed and violent. I hope you have the weapons and ammo for the Justin Case. You know good ol' Justin.

I truly wish you all the best and look forward to hearing you came through this trial safe, and sane!

Pat☺

I'm not so sure I'd choose to 'shelter in place' especially now when they are predicting it will be CAT4 by time of landfall! o_O

In any event, it is simply not possible for everyone to evacuate, so I'm praying for the best for all who must remain...

Thanks to everyone for their well wishes. As of this morning's latest storm track it looks like this storm will take a more northward course as it reaches the coastline of Florida. So the storm seems no longer aimed directly at me. I'm about 12 miles south of West Palm Beach. So that's good news for me and all the other people in my area but bad news for people along the coast north of here. As Bill has pointed out it's going to be a strong storm when it arrives at the coast. All we can do now is wait.

Ed

You will still have power outages for some days 'they' warned you about (and not only for 2 or 3 days but maybe for much longer).
How come 'they' (the electricity companies) still haven't thought of starting to do put everything underground, like we have here? It is not rocky, so rather easy to be done, would get rid of all those cables hanging everywhere and spoiling the neighbourhood, and it would avoid (and save a lot of money) having to fix all of this almost each year?
Good luck.

...and then all the underground vaults fill up with water and suddenly a loud BZZZTTTT is heard and the lights go out...

Sorry to say Roby, but placing power lines in the ground is not possible everywhere, such as linestone or bedrock, high water tables or marsh lands. It not cost effective when they need to be installed or replaced. Considering that Florida alone has sinkhole problems also.
