• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

realign photoreal to FSX

I'm just beginning to open up this whole new world (literally) and have succeeded in getting a small airport into fsx. Now I notice that a road in the photoreal does not align precisely with the existing road in FSX.

Is it possible to realign/move the placement of the photoreal scenery with respect to the native fsx world?

It's only off by one lane of a two lane road, which is remarkably close, but I just wondered.

Thanks

If your photo fits "perfectly" to the runway/airport, I would choose not to trust the old (2006) FSX road data, and exclude the FSX road, then draw a new one with ADE or SBuilderX.

Using UTEX for Norway, I have also often found the UTEX roads are cheap data, with too many edges instead of proper curves. So I exlude them near my photos, and redraw them to fit.

The FSX runway does not line up, so I was intending to exclude it. It's off by about 10 degrees rotated to the left.

Now that I have thought about it more, my question should have been answered by the fact that the fsx runway must be excluded and a new runway placed with ADE or SbuilderX. I should have waited overnight before posting.:(

Thanks for your answer; it helps to clarify.

The one thing I have learned is how much work it is to create sceneries, and it makes for a high degree of respect and admiration for the work of others who have mastered it.

Good I was able to clarify a bit :)

I always check the runway first, to use it as a reference to check if the photo is correctly placed. I take the runway threshold coordinates from official charts. Then I put in a marker in ADE for each threshold, using these coordinates. That way I know if the runway is correct or not, and adjust accordingly if I have to. For Norway, MS has most of the runways correct, but I had to move ENDI and ENBM between 100 and 600 meters (!), plus I had to adjust the ENBO geo bearing a bit. Because of this, the photos now fits like a glove. Of course there is also questionable quality of photos. I have seen several photos from google (via SBuilder) that is way off. Higher quality photos from norwegian sources (via Globalmapper) fits perfectly.

Cheers,
