• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Recording jet engine sounds...

I've always been interested in compiling aircraft sounds for FSX and since I just bought FS Sound Studio, it's easier than ever! There's just one problem...I need some good recordings of jet engines. I tried searching Youtube for a very long time and can't find any videos that are good quality and have the sound moments that I would like, and also it's not very ethical to take sounds from there. :( I know companies like Turbine Sound Studios have professional equipment and record with expensive microphones right next to the planes. I'm looking into recording some sounds of my own without having to use Youtube as a crutch. I have an HD video camera that has pretty good sound quality but how do I go about recording an airplane? If it's flying over, the pitch and volume changes so I can't really use that for FS. Is it a good idea to go to the local regional airport and take some sort-of-up-close videos or is that risky with the airport's security and stuff? (My grandpa and I got stopped by police once when we were watching planes but I'm thinking of a different vantage point. This would be on an old country road near the runway but not too close ;).) Suggestions, anyone? :)

Depending on the size of aircraft/engine that you want to record for, I would suggest simply visiting a smaller charter company who operate from their own hanger/area of the apron, explain what you are doing/want to achieve and see if they'll let you be on the tarmac during startup etc of one of their flights.

Well Byerly Aviation has two of their own Challenger 601 jets, and my dad's friend works there, so maybe I can see if they would let me capture some sound from it. It's just that on takeoff and landing I wouldn't probably get to be as close as I would like to be.
