• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FS2004 Removing a pond

Hello,

Doesn't take much to please me, I'm all excited because I figured out how to make my first pond in SBuilder. :)

async

Now the question is, how do I remove the FS existing one?
Reading the SBuilder help it seem I could use an exclusion poly but if I understand correctly it would remove the landclass of the 2 adjacent LOD5?
Then what, I would have to cover with other polys or I don't know, my brains got lost right there

Or should I simply cover it with a poly of say layer 12 maybe?

The red dot is the part I want to hide/remove.

Thanks for much anticipated help.

I did some testing since my original post but to no avail.

I see 2 separate issues or rather a two-part solution to my problem.
One side of the pond must be covered with forest and the other side with whatever is used for the area around the runway.

  1. I added a poly for the wooded area to the right. I tried VTP and LWM. In both cases it covered the water but I still can see the surf...now in the woods :)
  2. I changed the layer of the original VTP (on the left side)from 7 to 12 thinking it would cover the water at layer 8. It did absolutely nothing.

Any SBuilder expert could give me a tip?

Yet another update after more testing...and still no help :(

This time I added a flatten AND another LWM poly (altitude slightly higher) to cover up the left side.

I ALMOST worked...except for that little splash of water left right there.
I don't get it and it's driving me nuts.

Helppppp puliz.

To get rid of a watermask, make a landmask. It's a poly in SBuilder of LWM type. Altitude shouldn't matter, I think, but -9999 is terrain-clinging for water.

To get rid of a shoreline, make an exclude poly, layer 8.

Hi Dick and thank you for your input. I believe that is what I did but it still didn't solve my problem. I'm attaching the file. Would you mind taking a look at it and let me know if I should modify something?

Thanks

Hi Patrick,
I guess the screen is FS9 (it's not the same for FSX)
to get rid of a lake the simpliest way is to edit the HP geomodif and delete the lake

Hey Alain, ouais, c'est c'que j'ai fait.

I did that but it only removed the line edge line of the pond, not the water class in the middle of it :(

Oh wait a minute...Alain you brought up the solution by mentioning HP. I just learned something I didn't know. SBuilder explains what each bgl contains, excepts it omits the HP type. It does mention the HL type which is the Hydro Lines but nothing about the HP. Actually what does the P stand for?

So I had removed only the edges of my pond. Now I just opened the HP blg and removed the LWM that was the body of the pond. I compiled and surprise, I end up with a LWM2 & LWM3. LWM3 being the Area Fills.

What is the safe way to handle the situation?
Should I set the compile option Area Fills are Polygons?
What are the implications?

I will test before anyone answers but I still would like to know the proper way to do it.

Update: I did test with the compile option Area Fills are Polygons checked and it still generated 2 bgl files. So right now I'm stuck...need help.

Thanks

I guess Sbuilder separates flat and slopped Hydro Poly (stands for HP...)
Don't know how you can get them merged.
Anyway keeping them named HPxxxxxlwm2.bgl and HPxxxxxxlwm3.bgl makes no difference for FS9

Duh, I hadn't thought of the obvious. Thanks.

Don't know how you can get them merged.
I think I read about a program in the help file.
Yep, just found it, not sure it pertain to the kind of merging I'm looking for. Update, got it, tried it. It seems to be a command line program and comes with no help file. No way to figure out how to use it. If someone knows please tell me.

There is a small programme that merges complete Cells with a default LOD5 VTP or LWM BGL. Search the AVSIM Scenery Design Forum for "BGLPatch". This programme is capable of installing and uninstalling the reworked Cell.

I also found in the help file a reference to a very interesting program. I installed it, it's great.
Work with PolyView

You can use a programme called PolyView, available at the AVSIM file library, as a land class catalogue. You can easily examine 3 different pictures of each land class with PolyView and chose one for placing in your map. You can copy into the clipboard (while in PolyView) the index of the chosen land class. Then, when in SBuilder, you can paste from the clipboard the chosen index. To set PolyView to work with SBuilder, please see the INI file
