• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Removing holes

Hi all,

Just a quick reminder that I changed something in the IMPORTOGR step with the last build. It will only remove holes from features now if you enable that option in the settings. Else it just takes the outer ring of the feature.

By default the setting to remove holes is false. So make sure to enable it if you need it. It is false by default, because it can take quite some time to process the holes. I'm going to see if I can make it a bit faster.

Hi,

I just did a test. Last time I ran my big dataset it was without remove holes set to through. Then it took 1:45 hour to process the dataset. This time I did set the option to remove holes to true. Now it took around 2:15 hour. So I think that is an acceptable increase, it's not as worse as I feared :)

Features with holes, so let's say a forest with an open clearing in the middle.

If the remove holes option is false only the outer geometry is used by scenproc.

How big the hole must be to be effected by the remover in SP?
Becasue I have features where wholes are wanted (airports, for isntance, where I annotate the autogen by hand)

Do you have some screenshots of the type of vector areas that illustrates the function?

It doesn't remove any holes. When remove holes is false the holes are not removed from the outer geometry and thus ignored.

I'll post a picture to clarify things when I'm back behind my pc.

Maybe I should rename the option, because actually when remove holes is false you loose your holes and don't get what you expect.

Let me explain what goes on with the three images attached to this post.

The first picture shows the original shapefile with holes.

The second picture shows how the features will be read when remove holes is false.

The third picture shows how the features will be read when remove holes is true.

So to get the realistic shape the setting should be true, but it might take longer to read the data due to the extra processing.

I have renamed it to ProcessHoles now. That should be more clear.
