• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

A few weeks ago I began work on an airport I had long abandoned. After messing around with Maya, ModelConverterX and Photoshop, I finally learned how to texture bake, so I applied it to my old models and I got :

Then messing around a lot, I baked some custom textures:

After researching the proper coordinates that aren't 00.0000000 and 00.0000000 and after I did a lot of buildings and improved Ground texture, I made this:

Some more shots after some more progress :

Unfortunately, I could not fix all the bleeding problems, such as the one by the two hangars on the right:

Looking really good :) i say you pick up the project and continue work looks promising

Oh my gosh, that looks great!

I'm a student pilot there (haven't flown for a while, though), but that third screenshot (of the group of six "after some more progress") is amazing. I'd be glad to help out if I can. :)

Did I get anything blatantly wrong? Although this project will be freeware (as it is my first), I do want to get some things right. All references I have are satellite and StreetView based, so the ground will be a little fuzzy and dark at night

Oh and If you or anyone can help with that bleeding texture problem that would be fantastic :)

Not to my memory; looks pretty good, especially for a first project. :)

You may want to use bezier curves for the corners of the ground polygon to make them more smooth. The wiki has an article here: http://www.fsdeveloper.com/wiki/index.php?title=Ground_polygon_creation_with_GMax. Also, an article on taxiway line creation: http://www.fsdeveloper.com/wiki/index.php?title=Taxiline_creation_with_GMax. And a separate tutorial here: http://www.fsdeveloper.com/wiki/ind...gh_resolution_airport_bases_and_taxiway_edges.

I actually live fairly far away, so I can't easily take new reference pictures, but I may have a few that may help. (Sort of stopped flying after my instructor left for the airlines, which was also around when school started last year, so I haven't been down there for a while.)

Your first project is really looking good.

I personally don't think this tutorial is now good
It used to be a good one but you will have problem if you have photoscenery together. The ground poly will not match. Using the length of the runway is not a good reference any more.

I would suggest this http://www.fsdeveloper.com/wiki/index.php?title=Align_background_image_in_3D_editor
or if your prefer pdf, I have this http://www.fsdeveloper.com/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=13462&d=1354779579

MCX make this possible to us to have a better reference plane. But the time of that tutorial, there was no this tool.

Moreover "DO NOT CHANGE ANY OF THE TEXTURES TO MIP MAPS" is not true. There is another better way to correct white line between ground poly.
And if you do it for FSX, don't to ground poly for satellite image. Photoscenery is much better and easier to do.
