• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

    Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

    By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Rotate with wind direction (ASM tweak)

Paul,

I noticed you added a FSX section to the rotate with wind article. I am not in favor of doing that. These articles describe ASM tweaking. This is not possible for the FSX format, so therefore it should not be mentioned.

If we ever find a way to do it in FSX (which I doubt) we can create a new article for that.

But we should not mix ASM tweaking with other things. I would suggest that I restore the old version of the article. But would like to discuss this with you before doing so.

Hi,

My preference would be to completely remove the reference to FSX. Would be a waste to have to specify that for every article related to ASM tweaking. The main article about ASM tweaking does already mention that it is not for FSX.

But maybe other people see this differently. If we want to keep FSX conditions here as well, then those articles should no longer be under the ASM tweaking heading.

I restored the old version. The fact that the article is not in the FSX category already indicates it does not related to that version. I don't think we should then adapt such old articles to more explicit say they are not valid for FSX.

In this case the page title is Rotate with wind,
a topic of interest to many FSX users.

The purpose of the wiki is for all developers/potential developers,
not just those already 'in the know'. :D

Neither should a user have to read through the full doc,
or scroll to the bottom of the page,
just to find which version it's applicable to.



Also please remember that -
any page is a potential entry point for a user,
i.e. linked from another website, or forum.
As such, they'll never have seen a reference on another page.



Every doc in the wiki
should explicitly state which FS versions its applicable to.

When a new FS version is released,
all docs should be updated
to reflect whether the doc's methods are supported.

If not supported, it should explicitly state that,
ad a link to the new method, (or placeholder), should be included.



To aid quick recognition of a doc's FS version applicability,
I've created an infobox for placement on every wiki page.

"Old timers" sometimes forget how much knowledge they have compared with newbies.

That are some good points, but if we really follow that the entire structure of the Wiki should change. In that case there is no point in putting up sections for ASM tweaking and other specific things. Then all pages should be general. That is a lot of work and I don't expect there are enough people to structure the whole Wiki like that (only a few people contribute).

I like the indicator you made for the different versions and that is a good way to indicate which version a certain tweak applies to.

But I think it should also be possible to have old tricks there, as long as it is clear it is old. In that case we should not edit all those articles to add a FSX section.

I have red articles on the Wiki and sometimes suspected the information was old and invalid, but how do I know? If there are no explicit information of the FS-version?

Paul made a nice template for that, but we are still in the process of adding it to all pages. After I finished my moving to another house I will go over all pages to check if the version information has been added.
