• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

a little side project I've been toying with. There is still a long way to go, it's trailer launched and parachute/airbag recovered, both are modeled, but I'm having difficulty figuring out how to incorporate both, I don't think they can be shoehorned into a landing gear template. One key spawns it, one key summons it, or let's it follow loosely and one key fires the missiles which are currently set to target AI aircraft. It has no problem pacing at any speed, but it has trouble holding close formation above 200 kts, which I believe is the update cycle and I think if I just pushed it a couple of hundred yards ahead, it would still be able to compensate adequately turning while staying closer.

2024

2020. Works for either sim with any aircraft.

Here it is with a different wingman and different code for controlling the missiles.

Here are a few more stills. The hope had been to make the wingman interchangeable between versions and while that remains possible, advances in the basic 2024 engine are pulling this development more toward 2024. Specifically, the beta version SDK is lightning quick, it builds and updates projects as quickly as we can think of something to tune or adjust, preventing the editing process from distracting the creativity process, plus the added functionality and control is starting to look much more accommodating to the current goal of deploying the Royal Wingman from launch rails on a flatbed trailer.

We're getting better at the course matching algorithm and have the model set up to fire a missile on command, it carries 3 in total and once the missile mesh leaves the aircraft it is deleted and replaced by a spawned mesh missile that flies to target.

Here we can see the wingman tracking with the user Hornet over San Francisco.

And after firing two missiles, we can see those are also tracked on the tablet. They could have specific targets if we wanted to type that all into the console. For now they are set to the nearest AI.
