• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

FSXA Runway Question

Using a AI Helicopter and FSXA. Want a short runway so AI does not slide 5 or 10,000 feet to take off.

Is there a default runway length setting in ADE? Trying to make separate runway for helicopter. For length, I tried 75 foot, 50 foot, ect. In ADE, it is perfect. But in FSXA, I would *guess* the length to be maybe 150 or 175 feet long. Another oddity: In FSXA, the 75 and the 50 foot runways are the same matching length. That is where I came upon the idea there may be a default length.
In the picture, the right runway is 75 feet. The left is 50 feet. But they show as the same length.

Appreciate any suggestions.

There is a maximum display length for a runway as I recall but I am not aware of a minimum but there may well be

FSX has some very unique runway coding.

A runway has a minimum size when compiling. That size is 1M x 1M (3.3F x 3.3F). However if we increase the length then the width can be decrease to a value of zero.

If we compile a postage stamp runway 3.3F x 3.3F the ingame runway graphics does not draw a 3.3 by 3.3F runway but draws a 3.3 by 1250F runway. If you want the compiler value to match the visual runway length then you must use 750 ft. or longer. That means 750F is the shortest runway allowed. The reason FSX has a minimum length runway of 750F is for the markings (if selected) to display properly.
