• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Runway Sunk In Scenery

Hey all.. im an intermediate user of FSSC and i have been building this scenery area.. it includes several small airports for helicopters. Problem is is its in the mountains and at several of the bases i have layering problems , as welll as at one , the runway is a thousand feet lower than everythign else in the scenery.. no matter what i try to do to the values of flatten files, altitudes, smoothing, nothing brings the runway up.... any ideas out there???? You can email me at firebpm@aol.com if you have something ...thanks in advance !

What version of FS are you working with?

How are you creating the runways? AFCAD or something else?

I use fs 2004 ..... the runway was placed with the latest version of FSSC.

It is a personal opinion but I never used FSSC to place runways and other airport facilities. I am not sure that even the latest version will deliver the correct solution for FS9. In fact I can't recall that you can do that with that program, but it is a while (several years) since I used it.

I would recommend that you create the runways and other airport data using AFCAD2.

FSSC is a great program but one does have to live by its rules.

Whatever you have set as the scenery elevation in the header of the scn file is going to be the elevation where all runways in the scenery show up. They are slave to it.

So, what you are trying to is quite doable as long as the little individual patches of scenery don't all contain runways. Only the runways that are located on terrain that is at the same elevation as the default scenery elevation (specified in the header) will show up correctly. The others will show up sunk down or elevated above.

Best bet, as may have been mentioned, individual scenerys for each location that contains a runway.

Cheers,
Chris
