• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FSX runway texture

Hello,

Tried to make a own runway for fsx in 3ds max.

I created a plane with the dimensions of the real runway and exported it at this time without texture to test it.

I can add this bgl object to fsx, but in FSX at some areas of the runway, I have the problem, that the old runway/the terrain is visible through my runway plane.

I replaced it on a existing airport, so I think the airport should be flatted and this shouldn't happen. What did I wrong?

Any tips for me?

regards comy

Hi,

There are a couple of things to check here. First you need to make sure you have a flatten under your airport to make sure the mesh is really flat.

Also you need to "postprocess" your ground polygons (runway). If you just place it as a MDL object it will not follow the curved earth of FSX correctly. Most people are using the FS2002 style techniques for their ground polygons, since that allows them to display with flickering and with the correct layering.

You can either use the FS2002 MakeMDL and manually tweak the ASM files. Or you can use the Ground Polygon Wizard functionality I build into ModelConverterX for this.

Hi arno,

Thanks for help.
I thought that every default airport of fsx has a flatten. How can I check it and add it if neccessary?

I didn't found anything about Ground Polygon Wizard in your Model Converter X. I did check the Manual, too.

thanks

Edit: okay have found your video...hope that will help me:O)
Edit2: But I don't have the wizard tab in the menu bar. I use v1.2, too.

Edit3: OKAY last development release:) Have it now, I will try it with the help of your video. Thanks.

hmm okay...something is wrong. I textured my runway now, but in Model Converter it looks like a chessboard.

Hi,

The checkerboard texture means that ModelConverterX could not find or load the texture file. Check the event log.
