• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Rwy marking

I would like to know if...changing the RWY designator marking eg. from 35L to 36L due to the variation,...will be display in FSX the new identification number.

Thanks a lot
Andy

If you change a a runway number, and the runway properties are set to display the number and designator - then yes it will be labelled with the new label. It will also be referred to by ATC with the new label

It should be pointed out that there is a separate entry for runway heading, and it would be more appropriate to leave the Runway number and designator with the correct value, and enter the heading as an adjustment, noting that there is also a heading for magnetic variation in the airport setup..

Simply changing the runway number will not change the heading ( ... I may stand corrected on that)

Please see Jim Vile posts elsewhere on this board re the potential pitfalls of moving a runway.

Thats correct....For example: There are some issues with incorrect deviation values in Flightsim in New Zealand so even though i have my deviation values set correctly and my runway headings set correctly the runway isnt aligned correctly.....the actual runway heading values i have to use in the XML/FSXplanner to align with the aerial photo are different to the published runway headings (27/09) but its the label that is shown in the sim.

Everyone has to remember that magnetic deviation values are set to early 2005 in FSX.

I would strongly urge you not to change the magentic deviation for an existing FSX airport. If you have to change the actual heading to get the airport to match the real world magentic heading - fine.

Also always remember that start locations and all the link lines down the center of the runway also have to be changed to the new designator.

Probably taxiway signs have to be changed.

Then approaches....
