• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

SBuilderX explanation needed

I already designed a lot of nice items for FSX with Luis Sa his very good tool.
But yet i am having some difficulties to understand
I have made a polygon saved it as my name1 and used Airport_backgrounds_Flatten_ExludeAutogen as propertie.
So far so good; this worked well in FSX.
Next i used the same polygon, but now with another propertie
LandClassPoly_Medium_City_Urban_non_grid_wet
I saved it this time as my name2; it worked again in FSX, but what i don't understand is why SBX isaved it as my name and NOT as 2 seperate file namely my name1 and my name2.

Can somebody please help me to explain this a little further:confused:
Thanks in advance
Bert

I cannot recall but can SBX handle names with spaces in them?

hi Jon,
I know what you mean, but my name was just a not so good example, but should be my_name or myname.
So it was not the reason it worked the way it did.
Thanks anyhow for your reply.

Hi Bert,

Not sure if I understand your qestion, but do you expect the tool to generate two BGL files with different names for you?

Hi Arno,
Yes, I did expect 2 different bgl files, because i also saved the polygon with 2 different names called:
1. enschede_flatten_exclude
2. enschede_LC_medium_city
Because i wanted to change the second one to different choices.

The same i have done before as try-out with FSX_KML; there you could use the shapefile (kml) over and over again if you want.
Of course you could also do all the tags in one go.

Are they separate projects then? or in the same project

Hi Bert.

If you right-click on the background, it will display a box that contains your project name and where you would like to save the BGLs. Change the project name there to rename the BGLs.

You could also go to the menu File/Properties to get the same box.

The box should say BGL Name, as that is the result.

Dick

hi Jon,
It is the same project.

hi Dick,
The project properties box is clear.
Are all the project names just in the root of SBuilderX; so you don't make extra projectdir's?

What i don't understand is the fact, that i did another project just the same way and that time i got 2 seperate files.
And in this case the project name is overwritten.
I don't want to bother you guys with these minor problems, but i very much want to know why these things happen this way. I don't find them very logical, and sometimes i get confused.

Bert

Hello Bert,

I am very interested in knowing about your problem. Here are some tips. You can set diferent names to the polygons but what matters for the name of the BGL is the project name. The project name is set using Dick tip. The name of the file where you save the project has nothing to do with the name of the BGL. The name of the BGL starts with CVX_ followed by the name of the project. If the name of the project has spaces, they are replaced with the character "_".

I hope that this agrees with your findings.

Regards, Luis

Hi Luis,
Thanks for your reply.
I try to report my findings "as good as it gets!".
In SB i have this dir:
SBuilder\Tools\Shapes\CVX_myname.bgl
togeteher with more dbf-, shp-, shx- and xml-files.

I think Luis that in my case the problem lays here in this directory, the project name "myname" stayed the same all the time.(it was overwriiten)
So i got the same outputfiles having the same projectname, when i used the same polygon with another propertie.
But i wrote before i wanted the possibility to change the properties of that same polygon to see the differences between several proporties

Luis I hope i explained (using my not native english) it more clear now, but as always it's easier to understand things for the developer himself then to make it clear for us the users...i was once a lecturer:)
I am designing having great fun using SB, but i am still having the feeling that something is not 100% the way it should in this part of SB...

Final question Luis, is there a possibility to insert extra points in a polygon?

Thanks very much for your attention.

Bert

Hi Bert,

If your objective is to save the same polygon with different properties, you need to save the project with other projectname, so use the option “Save Project As…” in File menu.

Hold the I key (I for insert) and click with the Left Mouse on a segment of a Line or Poly to Insert a new point.

Hold the D key (D for delete) and click with the Left Mouse over a point of a Line or Poly to Delete the point.

Hold the B key (B for brake) and click with the Left Mouse over a segment of a Line to Brake it into 2 parts, (you can not break polygons).

hi Hely,
This will certainly work, but i still find it strange, that when i am designing on projectA and i just want to use the same polygon (from the same project) i have to give it another projectname: projectB
Normally i should keep all the files in one project.

Thanks for your reply and advise for the handling of the points.

Bert
