• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

SbuilderX won't run after install

Can someone tell me how to get this program working on a 64 bit Win 10 install? I downloaded and installed version 313. i have installed it to the default location, C drive and to the documents folder all with no luck. When I launch it the error is "Can't find the INI file, please delete it....". Well I can't find an INI file. There is a .cfg file in the directory but deleting it does no good. I found the 314 version which says it supports P3D and 64 bit. I extracted it per the read me but I still get the INI file error.

Where is the default location? I installed it on a separate Partition and it works. Maybe a other location eg C:\SBuilderX would be better?

Have you a SBuilder.ini file? It is the only ini-file I have for this program. I think this file is not fix, it changes everytime you use this program.
I have to admit I use this program with Win7. So I didn't know if this program is compatible with Win10.

I think I have it fixed. I needed to run the program as an administrator. That took care of the ini file error.

Thanks for posting your solution ! :)

I had begun gathering some info for a reply related to the above SBuilderX error message, from what (very) little I could find online that was (remotely) related to this; but none of those mostly inconclusive threads I'd found thus far, had specifically mentioned this simple remedy:banghead: :

...to Run SBuilderX as Administrator .

Keep up the good problem-solving and thanks again for sharing your discoveries with others here ! ;)

No problem and thanks for your help as well. Just to add, I am running this on Win 10 with P3D and I have not had to do anything extra other than running SBX as admin to get it to work. I am running SBX 3.4.

FYI: When you begin using SBuilderX version 3.14 (64-bit) to work with creating / editing CVX vector scenery content, there are outstanding questions as to whether the existing shapelib.dll file version supplied with SBuilderX (that was IIUC, a 32-bit file re-compiled for use in a 64-bit Windows environment) ...will actually work under Windows 10.

There are also outstanding questions as to whether this can simply be swapped out for another version of that shplib.dll file from either Arno's ModelConverterX (aka "MCX") or from one of the recent 64-bit compatible builds of the GDAL GIS application. :scratchch

So please keep us informed as to whether you encounter any issues in SBuilderX with "Appending" / creating / exporting such ESRI SHP file-related CVX vector scenery content via shapelib.dll ...that SBuilderX will also ultimately need to compile via FSX / P3D SDK SHP2VEC. ;)

The 64-bit shapelib.dll is the same as Arno's. Something is broken in Windows 10 regarding the way Luis Sa implemented the communication with the DLL file (using VB.net).

I would recommend anyone using SBuilderX to use the 32-bit version 3.14 when using Windows 10. You will lose a little memory room when working with huge bitmaps, but those can always be broken down to smaller files and BGLs.

Hi Dick:

Thanks for that clarification. :)

So, IIUC, in Windows10:

* one can still use SBuilderX 3.14 (64-bit) for aerial imagery tile downloads, as well as "Add Map" 'From Background'- or 'From Disk'-, and to compose aerial imagery BGLs that require use of the FSX / P3D Resample compiler ?

* we must use SBuilderX 3.13 (32-bit) for CVX vector work, including "Appending" SHP files, and creating, editing, BGLs that require use of the FSX / P3D SHP2VEC compiler ?

Thanks in advance for your further advisement on this issue for use of SBuilderX in Windows 10. :scratchch
