• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

SBX and Windows 10 x64

Hi All,

I am trying the learn how to develop my own scenery and so I've been following a tutorial most everyone here has recommended.

https://www.flightsim.com/vbfs/showthread.php?250762-How-to-create-photoreal-scenery-for-FSX

I get to the second page (Section V - Working with Polygons) where I have to move the ground poly as FSX has it in the wrong spot. So I do exactly as it says, I make the water using Hydro_Default_Perennial. Then I traced the island to create the hole where the island should be. So this takes me to step 32, where I am to compile it to a BGL file. At the point it crashes, no error, but just slams to the desktop.

I am using Win 10 x64 and I've tried to post this to the SBX web forum but the dev seems to gone away; not even accepted my forum join request 2 months ago. I am using the 314 x64 version but now getting frustrated as it has been over a month of trying everything.

1) Is there a fix, ok besides going back to x32 Win 7?
2) Is there another tool, or do I need to learn to do everything via the SDK and scripts?

Thanks,
Jhan

Hello:

IMHO, the best recourse at this time considering the work you have already done within the context of the SBuilderX version 3.14 work-space to produce other scenery content all in precise positional alignment, is to export from SBuilderX (64-Bit), a SBX project data 'exchange' file (not to be confused with the less complete SBP project file).

Then install the SBuilderX (32-Bit) version in a separate location, and use that for compilation of CVX vector polygon and/or CVX vector poly-line scenery BGLs.

One can then "Append" that SBX file to the SBuilderX (32-Bit) version in order to generate the CVX vector BGLs, while still being able to produce other scenery in SBuilderX (64-Bit).

IIRC, Richard Ludowise (aka "rhumbaflappy") has a 'complete' ready-to-use folder chain in a ZIP file of that latest 32-Bit SBuilderX ...posted here:

PS: If that link is not still working, please report back here. :)

The pinned topic in this sub-forum explains the problems with Windows 10 64-bit. The good news is that Luis Sa is considering releasing the SBuilderX code to the public domain. This would allow programmers to explore the code and correct the vector compilation problem caused by Windows 10.

What I also found was that under Win10, using SBX-64bit also would not allow what I would consider "hi-res" satellite imagery. Trying to get anything in that range only produces the "white page_image not available". It's good that Luis "might" allow others to fix the problem, but it's my guess that a permanent fix (if it happens at all) is a long way off. Win7_64bit is an ideal platform for SBX, however it is not ideal for P3D_V4+. That's the only reason I went to Win10 as performance for that version was sub par and I was committed to V4 and future updates. The poor performance of an excellent program (SBX) has put all scenery design on hold as far as I'm concerned (not to mention that Instant Scenery3 won't see an updated version that works with P3D_V4 until next year it appears).

Hi Ed:

You will be pleasantly surprised with what is already in the works for a future release of SBuilderX on Win 7 or 10. ;)

BTW: Regarding SBuilderX version 3.14 (aka "SBX314"), which tile server(s) are you referring to, that do not show aerial imagery at the Zoom levels you would 'prefer' to use ?

Do you also see both visible and 'white' tiles in the SBX314 work-space at specific higher zoom levels for ex: Google ?

PS: I had not yet seen reports that P3Dv4 performed 'better' on 64-Bit Win-10 compared to Win-7; got some links ? :scratchch

I have seen a recommendation, but not a requirement for Win-10 ...here:

https://www.prepar3d.com/system-requirements/

However, I would be interested in learning about your personal experience running P3Dv4 on 64-Bit Win-7 vs. Win-10. :coffee:

Thanks in advance for your reply. :)

As far as imagery in SBX, there is no fix possible for issues related to either internet connections or tile availability. SBX can only display what your internet connection speed allows and what is available from the various server sources on the internet. There's nothing wrong with SBX' code in these instances.
