• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

H,
Any help will be greatly appreciated, I am trying to use SBX to place objects, I can place an unlimited amount of library objects, but with any MDL files, I can only seem to place 2 or 3 otherwise SBX won't compile the project,
Any ideas?

Thank you for all the help,
Lewis

Hello:

Personally, I always package my MDLs inside a BGLComp XML-type BGL as scenery library objects, so I have little experience with direct placement of MDLs.

I do know that ADE has / had the ability to directly place MDLs, although I have never used it.

Just out of curiosity, why would you prefer to directly place MDLs rather than first packaging MDLs inside a BGLComp XML-type BGL as scenery library objects, then creating a separate "placement instructions only" BGL via SBX, ADE, WhisPlacer, Instant Scenery, XML Object Placer, RWY-12, FS SDK Object Placement Tool (aka "OPT") ...or other FS utilities capable of that type of object placement method ? :scratchch

Hi Gary,
I would be interested in that yes, just i'm not sure how to do it!
Thanks for the suggestions,
Lewis

Hi Lewis:

What 3D modeling application do you use to make MDLs ? :scratchch

FYI: If you use Arno's ModelConverterX (aka "MCX") to import MDLs, you can 'Convert and Place' MDLs during Export to a FS scenery library BGL:

http://www.fsdeveloper.com/wiki/index.php?title=ModelConverterX#Convert_and_place_object_wizard

http://www.fsdeveloper.com/forum/threads/download-modelconverterx.14215/

Alternatively, one can use Arno's Library Creator XML:
