• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

P3D v3 Scenery Complexity

I am just learning scenery design, and starting working with ADE. I am working on KSYR and the aprons and taxiways have all sorts of angles and irregular shapes. Since this is the case, I decided to make my taxiways out of aprons, then just draw the lines on by hand, then use the taxi links without drawing any lines or surfaces. This also means I will have to put the taxi lights in by hand. This will result in many vertices and wonder how this will impact performance. I have a good computer, and want it to be as realistic as possible. Any input on what I am doing is appreciated. Thanks

Hello Keith,
with due respect i think you are making a lot of unnecessary work for yourself, the airport chart is easily available and will help you with accuracy,
for reference I have attached a pic of Craig Scott's version where i helped him with minor issues and tested the final version for him before he uploaded it
this will give you an idea of something easily achievable without too much effort and have minimal impact on FPS
as i take it you are new to airport design aprons are the easiest to change with no effort at all as you can see in the pic
may i suggest first you get the airport updated as regard to the taxiways and the aiport to operate as best you can to help you gain experience with airport design
of course if you would still like to do it your way then go for it.............. :)

Thanks for your reply. Understand I am just doing this for fun, flying has gotten boring for me and want to try something new. SYR is my home airport, got my PPL there, and want to try and make it as realistic as possible, and just fly around it a bit. Thanks again

Many of us started designing for fun LOL!! then it becomes an addiction so be warned :)
if you need any help get back to us..................
BTW! welcome to the forum,

Hi,

Most of this kind of thing using ADE does not really affect the frame rate almost at all, so no worries.
