• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Scenery Design Tutorial in gmax1.2

I am a newbie at gmax and I am working my way through the SDK gmax scenery tutorial (for FS2002). I have created the house but I cannot find the applications for applying the texture.

I have gmax1.2 and the gmax Material Editor window is quite different to that in the tutorial. There is a "diffuse"tab? but it just takes me straight to the Colour window. I cannot find any references to "assign texture...." or "locate bitmap file" nor any other commands that might be the equivalent.

Can someone pls advise.

Hi Nigel,

You might want to try the tutorial that came with the Fs2004 SDK. I think that has been updated for version 1.2 of GMax.

Personally I always assign the textures by dropping them from the material navigator (in file system view) on the parts I want them on. This way GMax creates the material automatically for you.

Thx, Arno. I downloaded the new tutorial and am half way through texturing the house by the tutorial method. I have a lot to learn. I will also try your method of texturing next.

Thx again
Nigel

Good to hear that. After a while you will find a method that you find to work easy. As with most things in GMax there is not one way of doing something. So in the end you will find some tricks of your own :).
