• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Just curious, how many scenery designers out there actually talk with the airport staff and airport authority boards, and get direct help from them in your scenery design efforts? :D

I do 100% of the time but I have only worked on one airport, :D.

For me, I thought it was important to get it right for such an important airport so I spoke with Chinese officials and Hong Kong Air Traffic Control. It definitely paid off for me.

Hi,

I think many people will do so, as often it is the only way to get good information. Having access to that kind of information makes your developing work a lot easier in the end.

But especially at bigger airports it can be tricky to get in contact with the right people. In that case knowing the right person who works there (and can get permission to help you) might be very useful.

Well, i'm very happy that I have made friends with the managers and some line operators at most of the airports in central North Carolina, including the Piedmont Triad Airport Authority at KGSO Piedmont Triad International Airport in Greensboro.

This is proving to be one hoss of a project, but it is coming along well! :D

From driving all over the place to take pictures, to almost getting arrested at KVUJ because the FBO forgot who I was and why I was walking around taking pictures of mundane things like power sheds and fuel trucks, to getting lost in the maze of golf courses in Pinehurst and Southern Pines trying to get pictures of KSOP, I have had a great adventure so far.

So you are doing some GMAX/3DSMax work on those airports? That is probably lookin pretty neat.

I've driven around to some strips and small airports around my neck of the woods, and it is fun to see these little airports. At Dexter, MO airport I saw a small hangar, half collapsed (!), that housed an IMMACULATE Piper Cub! Wooden prop and all.

I want to do my home airport KCGI at some point; I just have to finish the projects I have going first... :)
