• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

I'm a starting designer just doing ADEX stuff for now, I would like to know if there's someone who can create custom runways (realistic dirt, gravel, grass etc) just maybe one of each and what's your price? Nothing big an example of what I would like is the ORBX CZST Stewart runway setting..please contact PvtRamirez1@hotmail.comIf it sounds like something easy. (Must be able to get imported into ADEX or least into the game for further development) Thanks guys!

Hi,
What airport do you develop ?
You said that you are starting designer and doing ADEX stuff, but what else do you use for designs to start your career with ?
What type of project it is going to be, freeware or payware ?
What budget for this project you have ?
Usually if you go to find a freelancer you see how much people take for an hour of work (usually 10-50 bucks/h) or you offer your budget (100/200/500 bucks).

may be it is easier to to learn the stuff and get it done for free ?

Just tell us a bit more about yourself and about your project..

Cheers.

Hey thanks for the reply, I don't really have a budget considering I know these things take time because it does for me to design something, so I am up for a neutral agreement on budget, umm I have ADEX which I'm mostly on, but, I do have 3DS, sketchup, blender, instant scenery 3, among others. I have been using instant Sveneer 3 for buildings and other objects. I have made just little things and uploaded it to Simviation just to see what kinda feedback I get, umm I'm starting freeware until I get good enough for payware which will be a little bit unless I get all my learning down packed but I don't really got much to go by aside tutorials lol if I can learn how to create photorealistic stuff than I don't think I'd need much help but for the time being for a scenery like the example I gave, I'm very far from that :( lol any other inquiry I missed?

So you've forked out for 3DS yet you can't make a textured polygon?

Yeah because I want to have everything within reach so that I'm not stuck when the time for it comes, I have a whole bunch of other payware programs that I have yet to touch but just want to have all the tools available

:) Well if you have decided to pay for that kind a work like you mentioned at first then I can make you assure that your budget is going to be far too short... ORBX are selling their stuff lets say for $30 per copy and $30 is not the amount they are looking for. It is going to be far over of couple of thousands over the year.
To learn 3DS MAX or Blender is not enough, you need to learn 2D editors like GIMP or Photoshop as well and even that is not enough because you need to be an artist but not technician, the person who see the world a bit different than an average normal person... So apart of everything you need to develop yourself to be an artist.. Even if you make a polygon with photo texture on it - it is not photorealistic.. It is dummy.
The best way is start to learn and ask us here in the forum threads around and there are lot of people who will help you and even make for you some sort of stuff.. If you go this way then Im pretty much sure that your feedback that you have tried to find out is going to be absolutely perfect and true...

I joined 3 years ago with only knowledge of Sketchup and a bit of Photoshop and Im still on my first project and continue to learn this stuff..

Thanks for the very helpful advice, I'm trying to get my knowledge up there with all these tools, just gotta find the right stuff on these forums to learn the stuff I need to know, hopefully I do get someone who can make these requests for me upon agreeing on a price of course.

What air port is this for? a small GA strip would take a >week and cost a couple of hundred. A huge intercontinental airport will take months... and have a price tag to match.

Save yourself a lot of money and try to learn 'how to' yourself.
The idea behind Arno's website ( if I am not mistaken) is to share stuff and to learn from eachother.
Me, I am learrning a lot but unfortunately sharing too little yet except what I (at least) think is good advice.
  • You will probably believe me only when you have achieved doing something that you thought you could not and that you are now proud of (because you managed to do it yourself although be it with the help and tools of others that were so unselfish as to explain things over here and even keep up this website).

Yeah I'm starting to see you guys referring to the same method which makes sense, thanks :)

It was for a small village like GA strip but I'm going the route these guys are suggesting, I do appreciate the reply and help, how much was I looking at for a 500-700ft strip anyway?

Depends where it's for and how good you want it. Spill the beans, what's it called already? :) (I ask because there may be aerial imagery for it which will be very useful).

lol! Alright the project is on TNCS Saba airport near St. Maarten and I want the quality of the example airport I have on the start of the thread

You know that that entire island has been made expertly by flytampa? Part of their St Maarten package.

Why not just buy that?

I have a different vision in mind for that, plus I'm making it a freeware just to get out there a little and see if people like my product :)

Ah I see. I recall I had a good freeware version on my last computer.

Because the default airport is at sea level, not on a platform, it would be very difficult to do properly. I think the flytampa version had the entire airport as a 3d model

How are you going to overcome the terrain mesh problem?

Oh man that's an awesome shot of it!! They did a good job! And I was planning to elevate the runway a tad bit, not as much as they did tho since I got other stuff in mind that I need elevation not too far from the water, if that's what you were referring to by terrain problems

Yeah, It's a steep cliff: Unless a user has their mesh set really high, the water will rise up the terrain really badly. Everything above is a 3d model, hence no terrain problems. I suggest going with something easier.;)
