• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

SDK's with Accelerator DVD

Why was the updated SDK's NOT INCLUDED on the (UK) DVD?
The whole route of development, patches, service pack, Install this - but not if you have Accelerator. The whole setup is a complete nightmare. Can someone answer clearly to a developer if you have the Delux version - with the service pack 1a and SDK service pack 1a and not downloaded and installed service pack 2 because you had purchased Accelerator and done the install WHERE THE HELL IS THE SDK UPDATE? IT AIN'T ON THE DVD.
Some CLEAR PRECISE ADVICE would be appreciated.
Is this a case of "bloatware" Does anybody know what the other is doing?

How can I say or prove that the SDK MSI installer on my RETAIL PURCHASED DVD COPY OF ACCELERATOR IS DATED 27 09 2007
03.18 and has been installed and the only thing changed was the .chm file.
I do know how to install stuff I think unless a MCSE, CompTIA etc were a waste of time and 12 years or running my own IT company.

The point is that If I downloaded SDK sp2 It states DO NOT INSTALL IF YOU HAVE ALREADY INSTALLED ACCELERATOR and the SDK supplied with accelerator is basically sp1a. So does this mean 2 different installs? Why could not the SDK with Accelerator have the ammended modeldefs.xml and other documentation. If you listen to the advice given on the download page you are stuck with sp1a and a .chm file.

Hi Folks

Polypusher -
You are entirely missing the point. :D

SP1a is additionally supplied on the disk in a sub-folder.

Go back and look at the table, (second column).

The version you have installed,
that one with the documentation in .chm format,
is the SP2 version. :D

To confirm
look at bglcomp.exe or modeldef.xml
are they dated 26/09/2007 and 14/09/2007 ?
If so you've correctly installed SP2.

So the modeldef.xml file has no XML parts for the wing fold, tail hook, various knobs in the VC and other model parts added by accelerator then? So how do you make a model featuring those animated parts? Custom XML?

OK It turns out that the modeldef.xml file was not over written on the update. I had to delete the file from the bin folder and do a repair. Why? If it was not for other posts in another thread I would have been oblivious to the new XML entries as the rest of the SDK was up dated. So you have to trash an install to get the update to work properly if you have added custom xml to the original file. It seems a very strange way of applying updates and if I believed all what was said and insistent upon that I had the fully updated version I would be missing about 60 new entries. Please why can’t we have a simple update route that is compatible with all versions and not have a mind of its own.

Hi Folks

Polypusher -
Where was your modeldef.xml stashed ?

AIUI, (may be wrong),
The SDK installation process
deletes the entire SDK tree
removing all content.

It then installs a new tree from scratch.

Did you perchance
copy your modified modeldef.xml into the new tree ?

If it was not for other posts in another thread I would have been oblivious to the new XML entries as the rest of the SDK was up dated.
Please post a URL to that thread.

If you had read the readme with the SDK update, it states that any modifications should be backed up before installation.

But it seems the post starter is saying that the installer did not update the files he had modified. So that would mean it works not as you expect from the text :).

Thanks Arno Precisley. The statement about a back up is because if it goes pear shaped you have a restore file or point to go back to and anybody working on a pc will at some stage in their life find this out the hard way. But back to the point - Not much point doing a back up or even saving the file if it is just ignored in the update - upgrade process. Most frustrating when you find out that you have been playing on the wrong ball park by accident and the directions given are misleading to say the least.

The biggest value I find in the Acceleration version of the modeldef.xml is that it provides more "boilerplate" from which to further create/refine custom animations... :duck:
