• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

P3D v4 set default trans question

I am trying to change the canopy of a plane so it is not too clear and not too dark. Right now it is too clear... It is greater, 4, true I have been trying to set it to 128. I do so then click for 'set default trans' and then ' apply'. Nothing changes I go to another texture then back to this one... it reverted back to 4.... no change what so ever.; Am I doing something wrong? A friend of mine with as much or even more than I have has the same problem. bob

Hi,

Which setting are you altering? In general you need to adjust the alpha channel of the texture, unless the material uses a final alpha multiplication.

This is the model. It is an AI - The canopy would not change until I went into each texture set and modified the alpha channel there with dxt/bmp , then it looked better. (alpha channel I adjusted to about 90, usually I use 128) It all looked better but was too dark, but to me acceptable but my friend complains it should be much lighter. I then went into MCX and set default trans but did not pay attention to the number (which I saw later was either 4 or 40) but the canopy did lighten fro opaque to very clear.

Now it looks very clear; I can see the canopy outline, showing there is glass, but my friend now complains it is too light and he can't see any 'glass'.

I then return to MCX but now cannot make any changes. If I change to 128 it always goes back to 40 or 4. (two parts of the canopy... inside and outside.

Hi,

When you talk about "change to 128" are you talking about the material alpha test level attribute? I do also see that the diffuse color has an alpha component set (alpha value of 86), that could be something to tweak as well.
