• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

i have followed glass recipes ive found here but cannot get decent specular highlights on the glass. no matter how i tweak the specular and glossiness levels in 3dsmax. no effect in fsx.

thanks

double sided glass texture

i have created nice glass with reflections for the flightdeck windows externally but i want to see the glass inside through an open window or even through the external glass. the problem is if i make it double sided via the enhanced fsx parameters i get nasty jagged reflections on the inside. obviously i dont want any reflections on the inside so what is the sec ret here . is it to double skin an inner layer without reflections or is there another way?

also what does the " is virtual cockpit panel texture" option actually do in fsx

im using max2012

thanks

For the inside "glass" make a clone of the exterior "glass" mesh.

The "is virtual cockpit panel texture" option is used for gauge projection polygons. It is a flag telling FSX to create a memory bitmap, as there is no "real bitmap" to use.

thanks again Bill.

make a clone but without the reflections right?

where did you learn all this struff because i dont see a whole load of questions here from you asking all this when the sdk first came out. i wish i did not have to constantly ask so many questions but i simply cant find the info anyother way. i spend days and days just trying different setting and re exporting again and again and its so time consuming trying to work it out for my self. i wish there was more info in the sdk about all the fsx material setting in max that covered all these questions

i do really appreciate your help as always

Oh my! Nearly fifteen years of studying will allow anyone to know as much -or more!- than I do... :rotfl:

Yes, clone the glass, flip the polygons (so they face inwards), then create a new Material for the inside glass.
