• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Show FS9 Landmask in FSX?

Hello.

I've made a lot of LWM for FS9 in SBuilder 2.06 and I want to use it in FSX too.
It works with the watermask polys and the shore lines but the islands made by landmask polys don't show up.
I've remade some of the islands to watermask but it is nearly a "mission impossible" to remake all the small islands to watermask.
Is there a way to convert the islands made by landmask so they show up in FSX?

Best regards

Hasse.

Some things I have done in the past (but not really simple) is to export surfer BLN from SBuilder and use GIS software to import the BLN and convert to shp then import the shp into SBuilderX, or else import the surfer BLN directly into SBuilderX.

Hello Scott.

Thank you for your answer. To use GIS is new to me and I don't know how it works. I Googled GIS and there is a lot of information to get. You opened a new door for me. Can you recommend a free-ware tool to start with.

I've tried some more ways to make the landmask show up in FSX, but the only working way so far, is the way to rewrite them to watermask. Very time consuming, but the result is good. I have work to do for the next months ;-)

Best regards

Hasse.

From SBuilder9:

Make a copy of your project!
On the copy, select all the non-water items and delete them. Now you have just the water. Export these as an SBX file. That file can be imported to SBuilderX.

Make another copy of your project!
On that copy, delete all but the land items, and save as another SBX file. This can be imported to SBuilderX, and made as "holes" in the water polys. ( FSX just designates water... land is the areas not water )

The same process can be done with shorelines.

If there is a problem with the SBX files, then you can always export from SBuilder9 as BLN files, and import them to SBuilderX.

Thanks Dick. For some reason I though SBX files from SBuilder wouldn't load correctly in SBbuilderX. My suggested method is not nearly as good, except if you have other programs with the ability to create holes in polygons. Importing an SBX file and then converting island polys to holes shouldn't be a problem though.
