• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Simconnect v MSFS2024

I'm finding some external programs can connect to MSFS2024 while others cannot.

I have no firewall issues nor anti virus issues.

Can anyone tell me where to look to resolve this.

Thankyou

Graham

Simconnect for 2020 is 100% compatible with 2024
I would get in touch with the creator if the program is not yours
The connection itself shouldn't be the issue,.but if the connection is inside another routine that checks e.g. for community location or whatever it may fail for that reason

@Graham S Sumner I'm finding a similar issue. MSFS2020 connects over a network with no issue using Simconnect. The port number is the same for 2020 and 2024 and the simconnect .xml and remote .cfg files are the same for both sims. Yet 2024 just will not see the remote for some reason. Its driving me batty trying to sort this. I will bet its one tiny thing I have forgotten.

I've been working with one of the team from navigraph. Apparently he says it's only people using windows 10. Beyond atc Wont connect neither will activesky or the navigraph connector program. I've had no luck. So far. Navigraph say they are looking into it but they probably given up too by now. Can only hope su3 changes something.

If you find something post back here and I'll do the same.

Graham

@Graham S Sumner a bit of a long shot but..
I have tried to put the 2024 flightsimulator.exe file as an allowed app through the firewall. "It" will not let me do it saying I dont own the file check with the administrator - which I am. With 2020 it was easy as to make it an app to allow through the firewall but for some reason 2024 will not allow it.
OK so then I turn off both firewalls and no change. So I am obviously missing something with 2024.

I think, for me at least it's msfs2024 and some external applications. Other applications that use simconnect work fine. I'm guessing add-ons use simconnect in different ways, so some work while some do not. The navigraph software team worked for hours remotely on my computer but couldn't find a reason why their simlink connector could not see that ms2024 was running. It's very annoying.

Graham

PS my firewalls are off.

To clarify, are you both talking about remote network connections, where the SimConnect-based app(s) is/are running on a different computer than the sim?

SimConnect connections are always network-based, whether they're running on the same or separate PC as the sim, which is why I'm asking.

The way SimConnect establishes a connection to the sim would be the same for any app using it since there is literally only one way to do that (on the code side). If the underlying issue is the initial connection to the sim, I don't see how using SimConnect "in different ways" would make any difference. Only thing that comes to my mind offhand is (possibly) privilege level of the SimConnect client app (though I've never heard of that issue specifically). Or that the clients are using different SimConnect.cfg setups, which I have run into (the file needs to be next to the executable).

Cheers,

I'm talking about apps running on the same computer also. For example simlink by navigraph refuses to see msfs2024 is running. Msfs2020 is fine. Also beyond atc is the same. Activesky is the same.

I've been told by navigraph it only seems to be a thing with msfs2024 on a windows 10 machine. I've had navigraph software engineers remotely connect to my pc but they can't find out what's going on.

Well that's odd. I personally don't use those apps, but seems like they work fine for other FS24 users...? I see people mentioning them. E.g. a recent FS24 beta broke most SimConnect apps which caused a ton of reports, including for the apps you mention, so I assume they were working before that (fixed in a newer beta). My own SimConnect-based apps all work fine and I haven't gotten any bug reports regarding connection issues. I still use Win10 predominantly. As I mentioned, I'm at a loss to understand why calling SimConnect_Open() would work on some apps and not on others... there must be more to it.

navigraph refuses to see msfs2024 is running

Semantics maybe, but guess I'm not sure what this means... If it needs to detect MSFS is running before trying to connect to it, for some reason, maybe that's the issue? Did those engineers at least determine where (at which stage of the connection) the issue is? Seems odd to spend hours on an issue and walk away "empty." I assume you or they have tried running the problem apps as administrator to eliminate permission issues.

They tried for hours. The logs they read may have indicated when and why it wouldn't connect. There are others on their forum with the same problem but not many. Semantics I suppose but saying you've seen it work for others means nothing really so I don't understand why you said that either. It's obvious some people have a problem and the problem exists as I've had software engineers connected remotely for hours trying to resolve it. I'm sure people with windows 11 aren't having this problem, navigraph said it's just reported with ms24 on win10. Maybe one day someone can work it out

It was a question. Perhaps poorly worded.
There are others on their forum with the same problem but not many.
And that mostly answers it. Except if it affects all Win10 users, or just some.
It's obvious some people have a problem...
Wasn't obvious to me, sorry. I follow bug reports on the MSFS dev and public forums, but certainly possible I missed some.

Cannot attempt further help w/out more information though.

Cheers,
