• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

SimObject Library without ADE?

I have been granted permission to use somebody else's models in my Bitburg Scenery project, but the owner does not want his models to be objects which another person could pick out and use in their projects, possibly without his consent.

I think I know that this would work as SimObjects, but I do not know how to create SimObjects in MSFS2020 SDK. Someone did mention using ADE but that appears to be dependent on me having FS9 installed.

I hope that explains the question ok: does anybody have any suggestions for how to use 3rd Party models but without them being available to anybody who has my scenery installed.

To be clear, I am not talking about my custom buildings created by me for the Bitburg project - I will probably also put those in a separate Library to go onto flightsim.to in due course.

Thanks.

Thanks.
Not possible. In MSFS 2020, any model can be referenced by another project, if the model is in Official or Community. That's kind of the basis of MSFS. You can place anybody's active model in any project. A simobject is no different.

If they're determined for them not to show up anywhere else, then you could join them to other models such as buildings to make a single mesh so they're effectively useless elsewhere.

There's no difference between a scenery object or simobject in its availability. You can add extra conditions such as visibility dependent on time, temperature etc with a simobject but they'll still be selectable.

OK, thank you both for that. I could build the models with, for example GSE around it or placed in a TAB-Vee. I will see what he thinks.
