• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FSXA Simple rotation animation - How to do in Gmax?

Hi all,

I try to create a windturbine. Modeling all parts is not the problem.
But I would like to animate the rotation, at the moment with all tutorials here that I have found and read, I´m not able to see any animation in FSX.

Can you give a clear tutorial (link maybe to tutorial here on FSD) how to create the animation in Gmax ?

Thank you

Arne

Have you tried looking in the aircraft modelling forums here? Animations are regularly discussed there as they are a vital part of aircraft modelling. Animations for scenery models are a bit of a rare item although some things have been done (and done well) in the past.

Hi,

Maybe you can tell us what you did already? Did you make a key frame animation? Did you use the animation editor script to assign it an animation type (ambient animation would be good)?

well, for a windturbine is difficult to find something ( I made my serch), but I think is easy to make windturbine animation, you have to rotate the blades of the windturbine while the "anime" button is on, and before you have moved the slider in the track all the way to the left.
Once you get the animation, you go to Sdk tool animation panel, and tag the animation (with ambient tag), and set the duration of the motion, etc, you will se all this in the windows. and click create.
You have to select the animated object before. in this case would be the blades.
This is the very basic of an animation, of coure it's much more.

Hi Arno, Hi Bernardo,

yes, at the moment I used a key frame animation, animation goes from frame 0 until 1023, at the moment. I will adjust it later mto a smaller value, because one complete rotation should be 6 seconds, so I think, a normal animation should be 150 frames long ? (6sec x 25 frames).
Animation in Gmax works well, but after export, FSX shows no animation yet.

I will read some of the animation threads in the aircraft section and try to find a solution.

Thanks for the input.

Arne

Once you have tagged the animation, be sure when exported to check the export animation box, I can't think of any other issue which can make the animation not work.

Hello,
I did the complete model, and I did a Keyframe Animation, but I see a problem that I have: I made it with 4 Keys, every 90 degrees, but the animation begins slowly and then it goes faster and then slow again, I am not 100% sure, but I think this process occures between every keys. How can I make that it keeps always the same ritmus?

Thanks for your help
Johannes

Try with 5 Keyframes.

Kf0 - 0 degrees
Kf 25 - 90 degrees
Kf 50 - 180 degrees
Kf 75 - 270 degrees
Kf 100 - 360 degrees.

Also make sure the rotation is linear :)

Animation - it works

Hi all,

thanks for your input here.
Now, I am able to see the animation also in FSX. :)
The problem here with me was the Animation Manager,
"Ambient" was selected but not attached in the "Object Anims", and the Create Button. :D I found an "Animation in FSX" Tutorial on the www.airfieldconstructiongroup.org site.

Now I can fill my world with wind-generators. :D

Best regards
Arne

I have the rotating radar tutorial from this site, very good tutorials. basically it's no so difficult you can get an animation, but I have problems with the transition betwen the end and inital frame of the animations ,at this point you see how the animation jump, how correct this. maybe setting exactly the grades of rotation for every keyframe ?

I used an animation lenghts of 150 frames, starting at 0 with 0 deg, than every 25 frames an new key with a rotation of 60 degrees, so
25 at 60 deg
50 at 120
75 at 180
100 240
125 300
and 150 with 360 degrees.

Animation in Gmax and FSX is abaolutely linear.
