• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Sketchup :Adding dirt and tire marks?!

Hi to all...

I made appron for my home airport in Sketchup... place nice texture on it... the base one... And now want to add some tire marks, oil stain and some cracks... Is it possible to take png file off lets say tire marks... and put it over base texture? Make in photoshop transparet png file that you can see base texture outside tire marks... Something like layers in photoshop...

I hope that you know what I need :D

Thanks!

You can do that if you convert the file into FS2002 style ground polygons. You create multiple polygons (all on top of each other) and in ModelConverterX you assign each polygon (each using a separate texture) to a layer, and they will layer in FS just like in Photoshop.

A look at the ground polygon wizard in MCX:

A tutorial on building a ground polygon runway in different layers (old method, use MCX instead):

Hope this helps,

So, if I understood well... Make first poligon in Sketchup... maby base one with that kind of texture... and than save it like collada file... then second poligon with dirt and save it once again as new collada... and maby the last one new model with markings of appron... and save it like new collada file...

And than combine them in ModelConverterX?

Sorry if I am wrong.. new guy to sketchup and FSX... :D

Hi Enzo:

You may wish to review this Blog post / linked PDF and the ModelConverterX (aka "MCX") wiki:

....And then there's also Arno's interesting YouTube video:

Perhaps the ex: desired RWY surface mark details could be added in 1 or more "blended" top layers. ;)

Hope this helps ! :)

Ok... problem..

I made this flat object.. base texture... and now in second layer making taxi marks... But made mistake... and now.. that flat taxiway is not flat any more...
Maby picture will tell the problem...

And now... is there any chance that I could flatten object by red ax...

Sorry... REX means RED :D
:(

I don't know if there is an automatic way, but you could go to a specific view (from the Views menu) that shows you the horizon line (0 line) and drag all the vertices to that line.

It will bring polygons that are not at 0 altitude back to 0, but it might not fix polygons that aren't flat, AFAIK?

I said because I tried to work a sloped runway out with ground poly, with all his layers, etc, and this was flattened impiously.

to the extent of my usage, and its in hundreds of hours, the object points cant be called to a select alt. now thats not to say it cant, its to say I havent found a way to do it if it is possible.
