• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Hi guys,
I am a little rusty on modelling.
1. How do i get model converter x to import a model from sketchup to prepar3d v2?

I do not have fsx on my system only the prepar3d v2 SDK

2. Also, my Norton 360 keeps deleting the Model Converter X executables. This is driving me nuts and i cannot seem to stop it from doing this. Any ideas?

Hi,

If you grab the latest development release there is support to export to p3d v2 mdl files.

Never heard such complaints about norton, so can't help with that.

Hi guys,

2. Also, my Norton 360 keeps deleting the Model Converter X executables. This is driving me nuts and i cannot seem to stop it from doing this. Any ideas?

FYI: A possible workaround for Norton 360 to stop deleting MCX was posted in reply to the OP in this thread over at the LM-P3D Forum:

http://www.prepar3d.com/forum-5/?mingleforumaction=viewtopic&t=7412.0#postid-39545

However, this flagging of MCX by Norton does beg the question as to whether MCX "Options" can be set to entirely disable recurrent "Phone Home" behavior ! :redflag:

If the problem is that MCX checks for updates at startup, then yes that can be disabled in the options.

That's the only internet communication that happens. Besides the sending of error reports on crashes of course.

I am not sure what it is about MCX that Norton deem unsafe, but it appears to be some kind of comparison Norton makes against a database. It sees MCX as being iffy that's for sure, even though it also says that many Norton users have this same mcx executable! (go figure). I had to make an exception for it in my Norton settings so that model converter.exe isn't immediately deleted the second I attempt to run the program. It could be the update checker, I hadn't thought of that.

Norton is highly not recommended. Creates more problems than it solves (unless you count not having viruses because you don't use the computer a solved problem)
