• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

skin animation problem: 'double vision'

I created a small animated windsock with bones. It works nice, but in fsx the windsock appears twice. There are two windsocks (only the animated part) which move with a small delay.

Don't know what I did wrong.

Horst,

Possibly the problem is with the bone envelopes - hard to tell from the screen shot. You can try expanding the envelopes, or if you like send me your .gmax file and I'll see what I can find.

Thanks for the help. I'm afraid it's in Max.

But I'll try to enlarge the envelopes first.

I am afraid that I still couldn't find the problem.

The envelopes seem to be ok.

I created a complex person and tried to animate with bones, too. It works very nice in Max, but allthough using correct material, animation names (ambient,...) and exporting without problems the animations doesn't show at all in fsx.

Is there some trick I may have missed?

Ok, found out:

It seems fsx can't handle submaterials applied to skinned mesh.

Working on the other issue...

Hi Horst,

Did you ever get your skin and bones windsock working? In particular, does it respond to the speed and direction of the wind? If not, is this possible in a way that will work in FSX and P3D v3?

Thanks for any info you have on this,

You cannot tweak fix models with conditional display like wind speed or wind direction. The only way to do that would be using an external tool like SODE.
We sometimes use bone-animation windsocks that don't show the current wind or we use tweaked fs9 or fs8 models without bones.

Thanks much for this info. The issue is that the FS9 methods no longer work in P3D. Not that I want to undertake the project -- that's for sure, but I'm wondering what the options are for creating a high class functioning windsock that needs only one GUID with versions that work in FSX, P3D v2.5 and P3D v3.x
