• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FSX Sloped runway

Can someone suggest a small, picturesque airfield with a sloped runway that they'd like to see done in detail? I'd like to take a stab at this to see how TerraBuilder FSX copes with it (this is my software, sorry for the shameless plug :rotfl: ). The airfield would need to:

  • Be in the continental USA, so I can use free USGS imagery and be able to freely share it.
  • Have a sloping runway.
  • Hopefully be near a body of water.
  • Have a diverse topography on a small scale (ridges, hills or canals small enough to be missed by the default topography)
  • Hasn't yet been "done to death" :o

Suggestions are invited!

Misho,
I would suggest: Lake Wohlford (8CL1) in Southern California :)

Tore,
your work is amazing

OK, maybe my mistake...new suggestion: Mariposa-Yosemite Airport(KMPI) again in California :)

hmmm I don't think that one is sloped...

It very well could be. It's on quite a hill. I have never seen the airport in person, so I can't be positive, although I've seen a video of a landing there on youtube. If I can find it, I'll link to it.

Catalina would also be a nice choice. Lake Wohlford and Catalina have some interesting terrain around them.

EDIT: I found a video of both airports...looks like the runway is pretty flat at both, sadly. Although have a look for yourself.

Catalina: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9IlC3V9AwgE

Perhaps Fallbrook Community Airpark (L18) would be good? I've been there in real life and it does have a bit of slope. Even the taxiways that run perpendicular onto the runway are sloped. (they slope up to the runway...the main taxiways themselves are below the runway quite a bit)

Why does it have to be a real airport? Just make the airport and give it a sloped runway for your testing purposes. :)
You dont practice baking a cake with your good bake-ware, or practice driving a car in a $300,000 Ferrari.

Aren't we dealing with "As real as it gets"?? :D Making up the scenery is like designing a Never Never land... sure looks pretty but all serious pilots will shake their heads and stay clear off it. What's better than designing a real place and making it look as close to the reality as possible?

I was saying for your testing to see how Terra handles it make one up, not release a production version thats a fake. lol.

I already know I can land on a hilly terrain mesh. If I go and invest work into it, why not do it on a real airport that has been grossly misrepresented in FSX? :p

Couldn't agree with you more on, any news on your efforts with Lynchburg - Falwell (W24)?
